Are you renting a car? Wondering if you'd be interested in driving 2 hr 20 min from Missoula to Whitefish? Got it down to $2165 but 2 connections each way if you do that on Delta. And this is so far in advance that i'd expect a schedule change or two and you can hopefully rebook to a one-stop on Delta at least on the way back through minneapolis

Looks like the problem ticket is actually from Kalispell to Nola on 2/10, that bumps up the ticket price to $1500 for a one-way. If you can find a way to get a one-way rental from Kalispell to Missoula, you should come out ahead

For the rental, if the company would charge you to return to a different location, one thing ive done in the past is a quick one-way dropoff. Aka turn in the long return for kalispell back to kalispell and then pick up a 'new' car immediately after that youre going to drive back to missoula (if you go that route)
Last time i did this was in Aspen for a ski trip. Had a bigass jeep wagoneer as the rental, turned it in, got a 2WD intermediate SUV and made it across vail pass back to DIA area before the snowstorm hit. Had changed my flights due to aspen airport being a crapshoot in bad winter weather

Farmer's almanac last year said winter was supposed to be awesome on the western slope...we all learned how that turned out.
This year, same thing, only because of El Nino or what have you.
That said, for all you powder chasers out there, especially as it pertains to Vail, BC, etc. Check out the Hudson Bay. Yes, the body of water in Canada. Once you see the pressure start to drop over the Hudson hang on to your butts in the valley.
and fwiw, i live out here. if anyone wants recs or help with anything just holler. There is no sonic, however. or Popeye's.

Steamboat: One of my favorite places to go. We went there twice in a row when the kids were learning to ski. If you can fly straight into Hayden, I would do that and take the shuttle to your resort from the airport. You don't need a car when you are there. Most resorts have a free private shuttle to and from the base of the mountain, into town, the grocery store, etc.
We stayed at Trappeurs Crossing Timberline Lodge. We took the shuttle most days to and from the base of the mountain. A couple of afternoons we walked back to stop at the local market.
The Old Town Hot Springs is a fun place to go. Basically a big heated swimming pool. They have a few smaller pools as well that are hotter. Water slide, rock wall. We also did tubing at Saddleback Ranch. All of the tubing is about the same wherever, but this place was the most laid back than others.

Time to finally retire my 2010 Salomon Shogun daily drivers. They had a good run, hundreds of days in fact. I still love them, but I know I’ll be skiing my last runs on them the first half of this season as I demo/purchase new all-mountain skis to replace them.
After doing a lot of research, I’ve narrowed down my target to these, similar specs to the Shoguns. I of course won’t know how the rocker points of contact are until I feel them on the mountain.
Have any of yall been on any of these skis? Thoughts?

I don’t know anything about the Shoguns but seeing Bents and Enforcers on the same list is surprising. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Rustler 10, you might also take a look at the Nordica Unleashed 98 and Rossignol Sender 100s for skis that are supposed to be damp but still playful (and sort of in that sweet spot between the Bents and Enforcers).
I’m super happy with my Ripstick 102s as daily drivers but I do wish for something damper and stabler when the snow gets chopped up. But man, they’re so fun to ski. Not a twin tip (I think all the skis on your list were twin tips) but so easy to pivot and throw around I have no problem skiing switch and doing reverts. Don't hold an edge in ice like a pure carving ski, but once you find that sweet spot and how much pressure the ski wants, you're in for a fun ride. Happy hunting!

For last March, we ended up in France because the pricing in the US with flights and all was stupid expensive. So I used points to fly us to a ski in ski out Club Med in the Alps which was awesome for kids. Group ski lessons included in the room rate for adults and kids (whether you use them or not is up to you), all inclusive food, and the kids club had its own locker room and suited the kids up for their lessons while you are already on the mountain. I think it's something people should seriously consider monetarily.
Anyway, liked that so much trying Austria this coming March in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. Won't be a Club Med but I think I found a similar setup.
For the record, I'm just learning to ski myself so we'll see how I hold up and bust my arse on my first descent with the big break.

I've priced it out in the past, Europe and North America ski trips are roughly the same cost from anywhere in the South or East Coast.
It's kinda nuts really.
Flights are obviously more expensive to Europe, but everything else is way cheaper.
The only drawback, and this is from my friends that grew up in Europe, is the snow quality predictability.
When you book a trip in August-November for a ski trip in Jan-March, you absolutely know what you are going to get regardless of where you go in North America.
You know that outside of some crazy Super El Nino, Breck is going to be Breck. Vail, Big Sky, Whistler, Telluride. It doesn't matter, book with confidence.
Europe Ski Season is always like rolling the Super El Nino dice.
You almost have to wait until January to book for February because the snow season can be absolute shite.
2nd hand advice from my Euro buddies. Take it for what it's worth.

If you got kids under 10, Gran Massif and Les Arc Panorama are the most kid friendly. You'll want to check in at the beginning of the week because the classes start at that point and end on Friday. We did Gran Massif. For an all inclusive buffet situation, I think it helped having French chefs. Can't complain.
Schlosshotel Fiss
This is what I'm doing next time. They are building out their kids area to add things for older kids that will be ready by 27/28 winter.
There's some other pretty cool ones around Austria depending when you go. Using AI to find these hotels is very useful.

Ya perhaps, I tried to pick high altitude/snow making resorts.
I considered Obergurgl which is the most snow sure in the area, but it wasn't as easy of a handoff. As I improve and they improve and get more self-reliant, I'll focus less on the assistance and classes.
Yup, and once I could use points to fly there it was a no brainer. Went to Lisbon a few days before skiing. This time I'll do Munich and then after skiing drive across Austria to Salzburg. That way you get the "Europe" experience and the skiing.

Park City (1st time) during Mardi Gras week and then straight to Tahoe (Heavenly with a sprinkle of Kirkwood) for two weeks.

Thanks for the info. I think I am sold on it. But we'd be driving, we only live 6 hrs away from the resort.

Most of the people I’ve met that live on the front range prefer Steamboat. I’ve never been, I doubt I’ll get out there this season.

Steamboat is great. It still has that western vibe and small town charm. It doesn’t feel super rich like other Colorado ski resort towns.
