I think protonmail is a good alternative. However, I would suggest 2 step verification for any sensitive information site.

Most major tech companies either have gone 2FA or are in the process of doing so. Not to say there aren't ulterior motives, but simple passwords have not been considered secure for quite some time.

2FA is a good thing. You should be using it for everything.

Can't believe you don't have 2FA already. It has nothing to do with data collection. You should be using 2FA everywhere possible

MFA is going to be used across the board for everything soon. With the amount of cyber attacks, it's good to have the extra layer.

I have a troll Twitter account that I don’t want associated with my phone or phone number.

Proton Mail got some bad press about a year ago for handing over IP addresses. Not sure that anything is 100% private though, so they are probably still a reasonable option and they do have an available workaround (use a VPN or Tor browser) to obscure the IP...

I make life as simple as possible, using a Yubi-key for everything I can from websites to SSH keys, and OTP for those that don't support the key.

Yeah this OP is a fail.

Whatever information you'd have to use to get 2FA, Google already has 100%.

its been known for a long time pretty much all of the encrypted email services will hand over IP address for 17 years now.

feds first used in liek 2005 and it got a bunch of press when the raw deal drug bust thing happened cause it was steroids and all over espn and other sites as athletes were implicated in the bust. fbi got the email companies to hand over the IP addresses and i beleive passwords too.

2FA is here and staying. It won't be long before most credit card companies start requiring for purchases. They are already doing it in EU. Cuts down on fraud by almost 98%.

You are, as many Faggies are, a Bona Fide idiot. They've been tracking you the whole time, they're trying not to help you publicize your Jlaw photos.

Please enable 2FA.

Funny - right at this EXACT MOMENT I'm going through the joke that 2FA is... trying to restore a less than year old perfect iphone that just up and blanked out last night and got into a boot loop.

1- I can't get into itunes or whatever to update/restore it because it wants to send the verification code to the iphone that is bricked.

2- after swapping sim cards with my sons phone (thank god I have 5 phones on our account and one of those was here at home with me) I got the verification code and was able to connect to itunes to try the update

3- I do the soft reboot and phone connects to itunes, starts downloading the update, the download is so big the iphone I guess times out and disconnects from itunes

4- the download finally arrives, but when trying again, it times out again while "extracting the downloaded files"

5- try moving to the work macbook, maybe this will be better

6- naw, seems to be a repeat of 3 and 4 above... 3rd attempt right now as I speak

We have 2FA on our school accounts. It is a PITA because I might write something on my tablet and want to access it on my laptop or the other way around and I am having to pull my phone out to sign in. Dumb. Seriously, if someone wants to sign it and do my schoolwork you are more than welcome to. If you really want to ready about biochem or immunohematology I can recommend much better places.

My favorite was a fob that had an ever changing number that you had to type in every minute before you had apps like Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator.
