I still use the one I built in 2011.
Works fine but contemplating switching to a laptop with docking station.
Any thoughts on the newish mobile AMD processors vs Intel?

I have a Surface that I used to replace my laptop. I also have a HP desktop for the kids to use in an area where I can monitor them easily. They are 8 & 5. Plus I will kill time some nights and play Civ 5 on it.

Yep. For video games and I work from home most of the time now. I have a laptop from work but all of my programs work on my personal PC so I don't use my laptop unless I'm out at a client meeting or at a coffee shop or something.

Yup, built one last year for CAD stuff. Have dual 24" monitors hooked up to it.
I don't really care for laptops, but I have a cheap one

Seems like last year or sometime ago I was reading that components were now prohibitively expensive for building your own.
Is that not the case?

IIRC, my build was right around $2300 after tax. It is basically a high end desktop mixed with a mid-range workstation

I use one at work and remote into it when I WFH.
I have a headless one for my Plex server that I remote into from my phone and laptop.

I have a desktop I built 2 or 3 years ago.
Mrs. Midnight uses a Surface Book and dock as her primary computer.
I can see the merits of both approaches.

Use a desktop I built early last year for work and some gaming. I’ve got a laptop but I’ve never been a huge laptop fan. Use it when I’m out of the office for more than an hour or two and want to get work done. Probably three or four times a month. All synced up via cloud.

Much lower now.
We have two laptops and a desktop I just built. Going to sell the laptops. We use tablets and phones.

I still use one at work, with a lappy as a backup/bring work home cpu
Most times at home I simply use an iPad Pro. I have not fired up a laptop for personal use in years.

I have one upstairs in my office for gaming.
I have my laptop downstairs to pay bills and quick google research.
My "gaming laptop" is now my digital mode laptop for my amateur radio habit.

IBM X1 Carbon laptop with USB hub and external monitor and I take one of two Ipads to meetings, depending on how much space I have.

I still use my iMac from 2012. Runs like a charm for what I need.
But I’m not a gamer of trying to edit 4K videos.

Personal use? I do not own a desktop. Laptops do just fine for... "films".
Work use? Number crunching beasts that can double as boat anchors.
