I got fiber installed at the begining of the year. The speeds have been excellent and a huge upgrade from Cox, but recently I’ve started having some connectivity issues with devices that are 2.4ghz only. Mainly a 3D printer, Tapo Camera and a pellet grill. Any reason why this would happen all the sudden?

Get a mesh system, the wireless router they give you is arse. Has nothing to do with fiber.

Did the 2.4 device connectivity change, or has it always been substandard? Especially with the pellet grill, you're likely running into interference issues.

2.4 has a "three wall" rule, where three walls of drywall degrades signal a ton. Assuming your walls aren't plaster and lathe, this is probably the issue. Could also be a leaky microwave, since I doubt you have an old school cordless phone in use.

This 100%. NetGear has some good (and easy) mesh options.

It seemed to pop up in the last month or so. Last night I went and separated to 2.4 and 5 into 2 separate networks so I’ll see if that helps

Agreed, and I like their service, but I used that thing as our wireless router for like 1 day.

I had to do that for the 2.4 items to work properly. The WiFi router directions said you could set up as one network, and items would choose the nest version. That was false.

Can someone recommend a few WiFi mesh systems to look at getting? Was coming here to look for solutions.

Have ATT fiber. Using their included router, which has worked fine for now. Wanting better coverage outside in the backyard and back of the house. 2 story, 3700sq ft home.

Want WiFi 7 and ease of use. Hoping to snag something on Memorial Day sale.

Thanks in advance!

wired backhaul access points are a better option than mesh systems. Do that if you can.

I ended up ordering these, and so far, it seems to have helped a lot. I'll give it a couple of weeks, and if it keeps working well, I order another for the back part of my house

Wifi Extender

I hope it stays that way for you. Haven’t heard that those extenders actually worked well but maybe for your case they’re good enough

You mentioned this happened "all of a sudden." Your fiber ISP likely pushed a silent, automatic firmware update to your router recently. This update may have optimized band steering for 5 GHz/6 GHz devices, accidentally locking out or "bouncing" your older 2.4 GHz gadgets.

So far it seems to be working. I figured for $20 it was worth trying

Tech nerds like to flex

The WiFi extender will almost certainly work well enough for what you’re looking for

I have a friend building a 6000sf house and I turned him onto the omada tplink router, controller, 4x 24 port switches and 4x ceiling mounted poe access points. Since his walls are all open I figured a hardened solution that unifies everything into a single app would be good idea.

ETA including fully encapsulated basement he's got 4 stories.

I personally am a big fan of OpenWRT but most TP-Link products can run OpenWRT.

96 ports screams a little overkill

Why not save 2U space and go with 2 48 port switches?
