I'm sure there is an obvious answer to this question that I'm missing, but what prevents the team defending a corner from putting all of their players sans the GK standing at midfield so that any attacking player can't be closer to the goal than that without being offside?

You're not offside if you're behind the ball, which everyone would be since the corner kick on the endline.

No offsides on a corner

You cannot be offside on a corner unless the ball is touched/played by a second attacker prior to you putting it in the net.

Thanks everyone! I figured it was probably something simple I just didn't know.

Any time the ball is put back into play after it has gone out of bounds, the player receiving the ball cannot be called offside. Throw ins, goal kicks, and corner kicks.

New Zealand coming out on top of group would be about the most shocking World Cup result I’ve ever seen. Hold onto this result then would just draw Belgium for it to realistically happen

Tough ask.
As an American, our best bet is for Egypt to win then tie or beat Iran on the last match day.

Keeper has to do better in pushing that over the bar.

It would be Robinson vs Salah, and I take that matchup all day long.

Anyone notice that the graphic for the break is inconsistent , with "hydration break" and "match break" both appearing. I'm guessing if the temperature is above a certain degree it's a hydration break, while if it's below it's a match break? Weird.
