With the USA and Germany out, I guess I wouldn't be all that miffed to see Messi win one. In fact, I wouldn't at all. Definitely don't want Ronaldo winning one though. And there's the added bonus that Argentina get to play the Dutch immediately after they knocked us out. I'm not really against the Dutch or saying this because we lost to them, but more annoyed that we didn't put away our chances or just generally play better. Had Pulisic scored that early chance... entirely different match. Assuming our defense doesn't completely sleep walk on every chance the Dutch get after the early would-be goal like ended up happening..

Order of teams I'd prefer to lift the trophy from most to least:

Argentina
Morocco
Croatia
Brazil
England
Netherlands
France
Portugal

I don't even mind England, but their fans are pretty insufferable. I've ranked them up there as one of the teams I'd like to see succeed due to heritage (yes that includes why I like Germany too - other reasons being Miroslav Klose, and very fond memories of the 2002 World Cup, but I digress). Also hope that last statement isn't looked down upon, I'm not one of those Americans that cheers for a European team over the USA, even though I know people like this due to their heritage and that shite is annoying.

The hooligan carnage that would happen is why I am cheering for those drunkards.

Fair point.

Rooting for Croatia and Moracco for the Cinderella story’s. Out of the big boys I’m with you two on England. The content alone would be worth it.

All that being said Brazil look like it’s theirs to lose.

Argentina for Messi
England for the entertainment
Brazil for the history
…but I think it’s France again…

A team that hasn’t won it before. Preferably Morocco

I lived in France, dated a French girl, and have a bunch of French friends. So yeah, allez les bleus.

Whichever team survives England v France I will be pulling for the rest of the way. Mostly due to my ancestry but also because I am more familiar with their players.

I don’t feel strongly one way or the other towards any of the remaining teams tbh, which is making it hard. Especially now that Ronaldo is on the bench. Seeing Portugal win with him looking on would be hilarious. Normally I’d be pulling for England, and I still sort of am purely for Harry Kane, but English Twitter really deserves nothing but pain. Lol. So I guess I’m just hoping for entertaining games, and not 120 minute tactical snooze fests decided by penalties.

I picked Argentina but am cheering for France. Either one of those will do. I don’t think any of the Cinderellas have a real shot, so really it’s “not Brazil” at this point.

Yeah that’s usually where I’m at, regarding Brazil, but I didn’t expect to like Richarlison as much as I did when he joined Tottenham. So the hate just isn’t the same this time around. and that’s sort of my problem, I can either point to a player or two on any remaining team and I’d be happy to see them win it, or there’s a compelling narrative for one of the countries.

It would be epic if Modic, the only other Ballon d’or winner during peak Messi Ronaldo, denied both of them at their last World Cup.

I’m not gonna lie I’ll be pretty pissed if Croatia & the Netherlands deprive us of a Brazil v. Argentina semi-final matchup. ….but I’d respect it.

I was working in France during the 2006 World Cup and became a bit of a French fan, so I wouldn’t mind them winning.

A Croatia win would be nice.
