Which young US prospect did you think for sure would be successful, but never made it.

I was positive Gedion Zelalem would be stud. Kid can't seem to make it in the MLS now.

Josh Sargent. Jury is still out, he’s still young and it’s really hard to judge him at Bremen, but I thought he would be a lock.

I also remember being super impressed with Chris Durkin at the World Cup. I don’t even know where he’s at in Europe right now.

That 2015 U20 World cup team was loaded. We were unlucky to lose by pk's to the eventual champs in the quarter finals.
Steffen, Arriola, CCV, Miazga, and Acosta are at least having decent careers, but damn I thought Zelalem, Hyndman, and EPB we're gonna be studs.

But the 2 I really thought would be the most successful were Maki Tall and Rubio Rubin. We've always needed forwards and I thought those two were gonna be the future.

Miazgas one and only debut at Chelsea I happened to be at. Made me so excited to see an American playing for the blues at the bridge. Now he’s getting loaned out again.

Had hopes for him.

Obligatory Freddy adu shout out

I used to watch Benfica games on sketch Chinese streams and scoffed at the idea of the other “big” Benfica prospect at the time being better long term, so probably Freddy

Other Benfica prospect was Angel di Maria

Holding onto the ball for way too long to get bodied off of it because you’re slight as shite cannot be overcome by a Hollywood ball or two per game

Hes still just 20 and is starting every game for St. Truiden in Belgium's 1st division. Has already played 21 games for them.

That 2015 team was really solid. Zelalem’s ACL tear seemed to completely derail his career. Maki Tall just never developed for some reason. Hyndman got stuck in a bad club situation (I still think he ends up in Europe again). Rubin also caught the injury bug. Joe Sonora hasn’t done as well as I thought he would. Joe Gyau is another guy who caught the injury bug and didn’t reach his full potential. Going back a little further, Junior Flores is one I thought for sure would make it big and he literally didn’t even make it as a pro. The 2013 U20 class had a few players I expected more of. Daniel Cuevas looked like a solid winger and Benji Joya certainly seemed talented enough to have a good pro career. Joya never made it at any club and he actually got released from his most recent club in July after getting arrested.

Jury is still out on Haji Wright, Cameron Carter Vickers, and several others. Andrew Carleton is probably a lost cause.

Remember when we thought Jurgen might call Luis Gil up for the 2014 World Cup?

I don’t remember that, but I remember him being the best prospect from that class. He should have gone to Arsenal when he got the academy offer

I am still on the hype train for Julian Green. I had high hopes for Alvarado Ventura when he made the USMNT switch, but his career was derailed.

Like others mentioned, Maki Tall was very hyped by this board. I have no clue where he is today.

I also thought Brek Shea would be a stud for Stoke. Don’t know if he ever actually got to play a game there.

At 15 Freddy Adu was supposed to turn into Lionel Messi. Instead Maurice Edu won more NT minutes by a large margin.

Large in the margin
the drama unfolds
behind closed doors.

My former boss is tight with Carleton's family. The kid has an ego the size of Russia and acts very entitled, which is ironic given that he's not even the best player in his family. His younger sister is miles better at her age than he was at the same age.

I think the worst thing that happened to him was being part of Atlanta United. Yes, I know about the Homegrown thing, but he needed to get away from here IMO in order to develop. I wonder if that had happened, where he might be today. He also badly needs to learn to be a professional.
