re: Which young US prospect did you think for sure would be successful, but never made it.
Zelalem is a good one. When Arsene compared him to a young Fabregas and then he never plays for Arsenal's first team, it's a big disappointment. Also I thought Cameron Carter-Vickers was going to be elite. He's still got time but has been a big disappointment for me.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm still convinced if not for injury that John O'Brien would have been one of the best to ever put on a USMNT shirt.

He's been killing it in Mexico though. I wonder if he would've been called up had Covid not killed international soccer this year.

Speaking of Mexi-Americans, Jesse Gonzalez. Man his career died hard and fast. I watch alot of FC Dallas and when he switched I was thrilled and thought he'd be the GK of the future.

Joe Gyau was never, at any point, good.

Apparently not high enough to know his name.

Johannson or however you spell it....he was a big name justa couple years ago but disappeared...was it injuries?

Yes it was injuries, but he's actually experiencing a career renaissance right now.

Probably one of our most in-form strikers.

Lol wut he was one of our best prospects in the entire pool at one point. At U15-17 level he just danced around the opposition like a bunch of traffic cones. He even got a few spot minutes for Dortmund before his injury, which was unheard for for USMNT players at that time.

My former boss is tight with Carleton's family. The kid has an ego the size of Russia and acts very entitled, which is ironic given that he's not even the best player in his family

Attitude is everything. I remember when Ben Spencer was a big striker prospect for us. I got to talk to someone on the USSF medical staff who worked a lot with the youth team at that time. I asked him why Spencer never panned out. He said it was obvious that he was lazy and really lacked the work ethic needed to reach the next level.

Josh Gatt was doing great things in Europe. Even if the Norwegian league isn’t top tier, he was 19 or 20 and looked like a future starter for the NT or at least a great chance of pace guy. He picked up a ton of serious injuries.

Jose Francisco Torres was a board favorite. He’s had a decent career but hasn’t gotten close to an NT roster in years.
