You know it's bad whenever the team you're most optimistic about is the 2-2 Saints with a 38 year old QB.

God for the glory days of 2007-11. Saints super bowl win and greatest team ever, LSU constant national title contention, LSU basketball made a good run, LSU baseball won a national title, Hornets were at the peak of their CP3 glory, Arsenal was fresh off a CL final and played some of the most exciting and beautiful soccer in the world, and the USMNT won the gold cup, had the great confer cup run, and then the amazing WC with the Slovenia comeback and miraculous Algeria goal.

Now....I mean Jesus.

I'm doing much better than I thought I would. The only reason I'm at work and not home in the fetal position is that I know we wouldn't make it out of the group stage and probably wouldn't have won a game.

That keeps getting brought up, but that doesn't make it any easier to take. I love the lead up to the World Cup almost as much as the tournament itself. I love when ESPN writes a preview piece of a team each day. They also do a great job of making artwork for each team. The draw would have been a fun work day to spend on the Soccer Board. The final roster would have been another good one. Putting on the colors the day of games was going to be exciting. Getting together with friends to watch was going to be fun.

I am sure most are like me, but I consume more of a sport when my team is good. I can remember looking forward to watching NFL Primetime when the Saints would win. I wouldn't even watch when they lost. So, I know that my enjoyment of the WC won't be as great because I probably won't care as much. I won't go out of my way to read articles on teams. It will be like the Euros. I will look forward to the tournament, but I won't feel as drawn to it as I could.

Want to feel worse? I just saw a tweet that said that there were 27 possible WLD combinations from the three matches last night. Only one of the 27 would have eliminated the US.

I went to the 2010 Send Off Series game in Philly in 2010 and New Jersey and Jacksonville in 2014. So much hope and anticipation in the lead-up to those matches - those are my most vivid US match memories.

Now - uh, maybe we can, uh help Belgium or Egypt tune up for the cup or something.

REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.

I am completely and utterly crushed guys. Normally I get more upset over football games, but this is by far the most I've been upset after one of my teams has lost. It's not like we lost and will have another chance next year, if that was the case I wouldn't be so upset. It's the fact that I have to wait another 5 years. Another 5 years to go out to bars with friends to watch the US games, another 5 years to hug and celebrate and go berserk with random people after the US scores a beauty of a goal, another 5 years to have some of the most fun and most enjoyable moments of my life, another 5 years to where finally our country is finally in sync, another 5 years before everyone puts aside all of their differences for a month and just focuses on US soccer because we're all proud to be Americans and we all want to see our boys succeed. I'm crushed we lost, but the thing I'm most devastated about is that I have to wait at least 5 more years to have all those memories again.

Yup.
Costa Rica's last minute loss looks kinda suspicious. Kudos to the Mexican team not being completely obvious in throwing their match. I can't be too mad at Costa Rica though, they've figured out how to play and apparently know what the frick they're doing. Which is something I can't say about us.
There's a lot to say about losing to the worst team in the Hex. There's also the actual moral, which is that a good team wouldn't be facing the possibility of elimination in the first place.
I wouldn't have been watching this team if they weren't the US team.

I’m not gonna lie, I looked at the standings before the game and parlayed that exact scenario. Nice payout. Small consolation.

I still feel like my heart was ripped from my chest last night. This is way worse than any LSU loss I've ever lived through.

Worst sports moment ever for me.

The finality of it all when that final whistle blew made me want to vomit.

I just watched Landon saving our arse in S. Africa again to try and bring my spirit up. It only made me more upset. Where was this passion last night?
