I've been going to the USL matches of the SD Loyal, which have been fun. SD is a great soccer city with a lot of development networks, especially having the hispanic community represented.

It would prolly never work in this country, but I wish we could have a promotion/relegation system. Every city is encouraged to create a club. Imagine some club from Pensacola or Birmingham being promoted to the MLS? Would be so great. We'd need to truly have a soccer culture that we just don't right now.

There’s no reason why it couldn’t work in this country. It would just have look different than it does elsewhere.

MLS is essentially a pay to play league just like youth soccer in this country

Franchise fees inject money for franchises owners

I can understand this sentiment. The small stadium at SDU is intimate, parking is free and the experience has the localized/family feel.

I don’t keep up with it but doesn’t MLS expansion mean you get 3 first round draft picks and Walker Zimmerman?

MLS will fail imo. Way too many teams in such a short period. Sounds desperate.

Is overall attendance down? What makes you think it will fail?

In no way do I think the league will fail but the more teams they have, the more the top talent will be spread out. This decreases overall quality and thus why almost everyone I know continues to watch the Premier League (or another top 5 league) and not the MLS.

30 teams in a top division where the country doesn't produce enough good players. The Don better loosen the foreign restrictions to basically non existent......but he won't or loosen the purse strings.

I wonder if people who weren't soccer fans but started watching things like Ted Lasso and Wrexham and decide to start paying attention might have any impact on this. Seeing the elation that Wrexham fans got being promoted would be something that would be great to be a part of.

USL has done a great job targeting small to midsize markets, some that have no other professional team, and have been serious in talks of pro/rel. Honestly can see them making a huge push in popularity that will force MLS to adjust for the betterment of the game. Have no idea how you sell relegation to owners with the insane franchise fees though.

I get what people are saying about talent but at the same time we've got 29 teams and the highest amount of talent in MLS history. Maybe it's not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be, especially with the ability to get a green card during the lifetime of a contract.
