Pochettino Resign/Re-Sign?

Better than Greggg, still allowed them to massively underperform. How much is on him is unclear but the way we exited felt a lot like failing to qualify against tnt. We ought to produce a higher standard than we seem capable of. It’s perplexing.

A lot of people in the business seem to feel he wants to get back into the everyday business of coaching a club, not just every few weeks with a national team.

IMO, I thought this was a good hire. He had his shot. USMNT doesn’t have enough world class players to get past R16 without a bit of luck. I really don’t think it was Poch’s fault.

Seen a few uncharacteristic tweets from USSF and reporters who cover them saying changes are being weighed for the youth system, among other things.

I’m interested to see what his contract looks like in terms of off-ramps to club ball again.

I wonder if he finds the rebuilding of the U.S. soccer landscape to be the real challenge here?

I mean, an advisory job setup for 67% of the calendar where he has the keys to the program and resets our system to reflect foreign successes would be a helluva stroke of luck.

I’d start a petition to DJT to give him full citizenship and the Presidential Medal of Freedom if it played out that way.

I would be fine with him getting more time. He barely had enough time to get his system in for the WC, and honestly, that last game was more on the players just having a huge meltdown. I thought he managed the team well and had good gameplans for each game.

My biggest con for bringing him back is that I think there is a better chance he doesn't complete a full cycle than does.

Just in the year and a half he was the USMNT coach, his name kept popping up for open coaching jobs and that when the USMNT job was at its highest profile, maybe ever, because of the cache of a home World Cup coming up.

I just don't see how he doesn't take a club job over the next four years and then we're back to having to make a hire for an abbreviated stint before a World Cup for a second consecutive cycle and third of the last four cycles.

I don't think there is any reason to believe this would happen. Just because a player didn't get one of the World Cup roster spots doesn't mean he is out of the plans forever. As long their talent warrants the call-up, they will get their chances.

With Gregg, we saw him have no problem calling up Pepi and Tillman after leaving them off the 22 roster. Hell, we saw him have no problem calling up Gio after the Reyna family tried to torpedo his family.

I'd rather a good coach that good teams want than our only competition to keep him being an MLS team or retirement.

I’ve come around on this. I don’t really care how big their name is, where they were, or what club is after them.

Connect with the players, have a style that fits your roster, make smart subs, don’t lose to Mexico, and leave it better than you found it. Don’t care if that’s Pochettino, Cherundolo, or Pep Guardiolo

I thought we played well in 4 of 5 World Cup games which is a much higher percentage than usual.

Yes Belgium was bad but with a full cycle and the ability to add additional tactics to our system would be promising.
