You don’t have to pretend you’re some model of sophistication because you’ve watched the World Cup

Many people haven’t for various reasons. I know that enrages you, but it’s true.

Robert so angry that he's followed this thread from the MSB to the soccer board... but isn't watching the World Cup

You people keep responding to me super upset I haven’t watched

I might watch tonight

That will probably upset you too. Soccer fans are a sensitive bunch.

The MLS needs to get better and they need the fans of clubs to stop being dorks.

If this doesn’t get you fired up I don’t know what will.

I agree with you for American pro sports

In a perfect world the MLS would be what the premier league is but that’ll obviously never happen

I would say you should still watch the champions league, specifically the knockout rounds. Those games can be similar to a lot of the World Cup games where they’re so fun to watch even if you don’t have a rooting interest

La Liga is the outlier here. Absolutely slow and boring games that are 1-0, 0-1, 1-1

I asked AI, and MLS supposedly ranks 14th in the world in as a collective league.

How do we fix this? How does is get in to the "just behind the big Euro 5" status? I think that's very important. I would kill for MLS to be included in Champions League but that's obviously a pipe dream.

I love international soccer. And I love tournament soccer. I have no interest in club soccer.

Playing for your country means more. And the tournament setting brings that out, so I watch every World Cup, every international friendly, every cup qualifier that’s televised, every Gold Cup, Every Copa America, and if we ever get back to the Confed cup I’ll watch that too.

And I’ll even watch the Euro tournament even though I have no dog in the fight

It doesn't.

As long as Champions League is the preeminent club competition, MLS will never be a preferred destination for top players in the primes of their careers.

It's such a prohibitive thing for the US then. Maybe when these super jets come out that greatly drop the time it takes to travel from the US to Europe, they could have a couple of east coast teams in the EPL or Spanish league? Again, probably far fetched. Sucks.

Yeah, but it's also why the MLS (and even USL) youth academies are so important.

If they can continue to show a proof of concept that they are able to somewhat consistently develop and churn out players capable of competing in the top end leagues, which we are seeing happen, slowly but surely, then we're in a good spot.

I think if the USA had a top league with matches played in the USA, then that would create more fans in the USA.

Will be difficult to create a top league that can't participate in Champions League.

Yeah I get it, but IMO that’s the main reason why soccer hasn’t taken off here in the US. We basically have the equivalent to Euro-league basketball in the MLS. It’s just too low of a tier for the average American to care about.

With MLB, NHL, NBA and NFL we have the best athletes in the world with those leagues.

Maybe, but if Americans start featuring more routinely for these well-known teams in the top leagues, they'll care.

Not saying it will ever be on this level for us, but the best South American players are by and large playing in Europe.

It would also help us soccer if a region of the country had it as the top sport but that won’t happen at this point.

The MLS path to being better is continued better development from their youth academy system, and bringing in young exciting South Americans, trying to bring less of the Messi and zlatan retirement tour. The problem is the retirement tour is making the league money.

It would also help if the supporter bases for the clubs were less weird than Aggy. Casual sports fans aren’t going to get into it if the supporter sections are collections of rainbow flags, purple haired weirdos and people with nose rings. The MLS needs to be pushing for hot soccer moms.

Having a massive influx of young players in European clubs also helps the development for the USMNT.

The MLS exposure is growing but as it expands it provides increasing opportunities for our guys in more competitive leagues as well.

Even if a % of people continue to watch only USA game it would be nice.

I mainly watch any cups and try to watch most USA games. Never got too attached with club teams.

The club attention should increase in the USA as well with more USA players in the mix.
