Between this and the news yesterday how they aren't radically changing the pay structure, Garber is doing his best to frick up domestic soccer here.

Called it before Messi even came they were not going to reinvest that extra revenue from taking fans to the cleaners

He is doing everything to keep the system as closed as possible

MLS and its owners do not care about growing the game here

I don’t get the reasoning for this. I guess games against Mexican teams make too much money to care about open cup.

MLS didn’t think the production of the games (especially when lower leagues hosted them) was up to par… they’d been hinting at this.

And? I don't see EPL teams backing out of the FA cup when they play a non-league side with a stadium of 5,000.

That day is coming… and if it doesn’t those EPL teams are sending the JV to those early round cup ties

This is so stupid. Some of my favorite memories as an Orlando City fan are USOC games, namely the “Running of the Wall” and winning it in 2022. Guessing they are going all in on Leagues Cup now until LigaMX backs out.

This is 100% a power play from Apple. They didn't like Turner and CBS getting in on their Messi exclusivity so they told the owners to back out of the Open cup and focus only on MLS and Leagues cup.

Besides the fans, this hurts the fringe and backups the most. It's almost counterintuitive as 80% of those Next players will never make an actual MLS team, so why not develop and get meaningful games to ones already on the squad.

If they didn’t want him to play they could have just told him he had a phantom “injury”

100% if Apple had the rights to the cup this wouldn’t be happening

MLS is letting Apple call the shots. Expanded playoffs, 3 game series which is an abomination and 80% of the playoffs not to tv for everyone to watch

When an international break happened and going directly against time slots of college and NFL football

All terrible moves

Why do you have the worst takes

Premier league teams do not field “JV” sides in the FA Cup

They might play squad players but they are still first teamers

What MLS is doing is sending the U-21s essentially to play in the US open cup, it’s not the same thing as you are trying to claim.

To say EPL teams will back out the FA cup is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen posted on this board.

Clearly you don’t remember many of my questions about why soccer doesn’t do more field decor with logos and such

Wolves haven’t been very relevant the past few years…

The back lash has been pretty substantial in the media and with fans

Supporters groups saying they will not attend leagues cup matches

Also will be interesting for the franchises that don’t have NextPro teams

USSF could technically remove MLS franchises D1 status because they are not in the competition

MLS is essentially trying to control all soccer in America and put everyone else out of business completely. Completely against the principles of the game.

This fixture congestion thing is completely nonsense, they did this their own with the leagues cup and they still don’t play more games than in other countries

Funny they say this but Inter Miami is going to have the biggest preseason tour of any MLS franchise.

MLS has long been an enemy of US soccer

But now they’ve officially declared war on the game in this country.

And some of you still defend them. Sickening.

Zero chance that happens because that would hurt the USSF more than MLS.

I stopped following MLS when it was bought by appple. This move is not surprising.

Closed system turf soccer needs to go away
