I don’t think it would hurt USSF as much as you think

They have really nothing to lose and could knee cap the frick out of MLS closing it off from rest of the world.

firstly Don needs to come off the board it’s a huge conflict of interest

USSF did everything it could to help MLS and now MLS fricked over USSF first chance it gets

At least give USL D1 status

MLS causing other teams to fold is nothing new

The CLT USL team had to fold

SD’s team has had to fold

They want to eliminate all other soccer in this country other than MLS and use LigaMX to line their pockets

It’s total opposite of growing the game

USL team in the finals two years ago and had a couple of good showings last year. MLS for sure is pissed they don't have a cakewalk anymore.

Being around a bunch of LigaMX fans these days they have zero interest in continuing League's Cup longer than they have to. Now Mexican Soccer Federation may have different opinions.

It will because any funding that they lose due to no longer be D1 will affect the youth academies more than the first team clubs.

These franchises are going to cut corners everywhere else before they even look at the product they put on the pitch.

Then USSF says frick MLS and full invest in the USL. Put all its weight in already established academies and help other USL clubs establish them. USL is in so many places MLS isn’t it could run laps around MLS with finding and producing talent due to it has a wider reach of areas.

USSF also gives its stamp of approval for USL pro/rel

MLS doesnt want its already inferior product being show up by what they essentially consider amateur league players they are trying to eliminate. Them trying to control all of soccer in this country is sickening. I feel like what attracts so many Americans to the game especially in Europe is how different it is than America franchise sports. So seeing how MLS runs its operations turns people off once they invest more of their time and understanding into the game.

Their fans call it the rats cup, can you really blame them. They got treated as second class citizens all to fatten the pockets of both leagues. All for that money not to be reinvested.

And all these people watching MLS bc of Messi are not going to stick around. They are Messi and European football fans. They don’t have time for this shame of a league. Hell they all were leaving matches once he got subbed off.

That's not how that works... that's not how any of this works.

USL doesn't have clubs in LA, NY, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, etc. and the USSF surely isn't going to foot the bill to start from square one to build up those franchises that won't come close to drawing the same attendance numbers as the more-established MLS clubs.

You're basically asking the USSF to not only create an XFL/USFL equivalent, but also for them to compete directly with the NFL.

So that a franchise in Statesboro, Georgia playing in a high school stadium can be in its premier league?

There's a reason pro/rel hasn't happened yet.

Depends on stadium. Smaller stadiums have charm. I’ve been to some lovey stadiums that are not pro stadiums. Yet have the charm and capacity of Luton Town.

They can sure as hell back the USL

The USL is in a ton of markets MLS isn’t in. There is money to be made. frick it help out SD USL team compete with this bullshite SDFC. You have places like Raleigh you can fully back the USL club and it can do well. Cut into CLT’s market share. The same CLT that MLS ran its USL team out of town. MLS doesn’t want competition and wants to run American soccer completely.

Meh teams would figure out a way. There have been times MLS sides have hosted in sub standards venues and pitches. The fact they play on plastic turf is a joke. The fact NYFC is essentially homeless for like 8 matches a season is embarrassing.

Louisville’s USL ground is better than a good bit of places MLS teams play

I forgot NYCFC. playing on a baseball field. With seats very far from the pitch.

TURF. Even the NFL is going away from it.

.
I’ll take a lot of smaller stadiums over this.

NYFC has had to host matches at Red Bull arena and random places in the NYC area. It’s a joke

You’re operating under the assumption that the American sports model is anything comparable to the English FA model.

Again, let’s say USL Champ becomes D1 and the 2022 USL1 winners South Georgia Tormenta get promoted to Champ. There is no way in hell that franchise, not a club, could survive., regardless of how “charming” their 2,000 seat high school stadium is.

It sucks, but it’s just not in the cards.

Im hoping this will turn into the big fight we all know needs to happen, but it already sounds like MLS is just gonna say frick it and send the academy kids in the first team anyway.

Also, you know you're bad when people like me who've been wholly disappointed with US Soccer the past few years or longer are defending them in this instance.

It’s not that simple

Due to the small size of their first team squads

The league once again has decided to not expand roster sizes. I said it last year and some didn’t believe me.

You can’t just throw in 18 youth team players in the the first team and move 18 first team squad players into the youth academy or reserves. Some of the next pro teams are not even in the same city as their parent club.

Then if you find yourself in the quarterfinals you reevaluate that and bring the big guns…
