Well we had first place in our hands. We were literally thirty seconds from 1st place and a two point lead but we screwed up. We could have won this group but our mistakes cost us.

I dont get it...

The US just advanced from the Group of Death, something we didnt have a good chance of doing, into the final 16. And people are bashing and trolling more than ever. I just dont get it. Should be a good day. Yet most people who are randomly coming here to post shite is making it suck.

This is how I feel when reading this board...

and yet in America's Pastime that is no longer the case.

and technically, they only created divisions b/c they expanded to so many teams that a balanced schedule was not longer possible. In a way, divisions are merely a version of group stage play.

so again, please name an American pro sport that currently only allows 1st place teams.

Why haven't you answered anyone's rebuttals about the countless other 'MERICAN sports where "losers" advance?

Did you cheer against LSU when they "backed into" the BCS because two other teams lost?

What non-soccer people fail to realize is that soccer fans like it just the way it is.

Diving - who cares
Biting - who cares
Losing and advancing - better than losing and going home

I think what he's saying is that the next time the Saints make the playoffs as a wild card, he'd be rooting for the other team that won its division and legitimately made the playoffs.
to be honest I didn't like when they went from 1 wild card to 2

But in this senerio every single group got wild card. Not exactly the same thing Baw

They told me on the MSB that no ones comes here to troll soccer fans and that soccer fans are arrogant and come to the MSB to try and push the sport on everyone else.

Was it a lie? Did the MSB lie to me? I cant believe that.

It's no doubt one of these. I'm surprised this dumb arse thread has made it this far.

Im wondering if the group would have played out for us in the reverse order... lose, draw, win... it would have been more palatable for these mental little people...

I don't have a problem with the US making it to the next round based on how the system works, but I do have an issue with the goalie from Ghana intentionally giving the game to Portugal, so that the US could advance.

Hope he got a nice payoff.

In America, you can lose your conference but be National champions. Ghana could've advanced ahead of the US on equal points losing head to head. It makes group really fun.

We got Germany in the final game. We didn't back into knockout. If anything, we looked gritty after getting them on one less day's rest after playing in the sauna.

It's like going against the other team's ace with your Sunday pitcher in college baseball. We just needed to keep it close.

so how much do you care about the past results?

From this group? Not really that much. I was a bit pissed when we only got a draw with Portugal but at the end of the day things worked out.

Anyone that loses during a regular season should be automatically eliminated from the post season. Fact.
