But I'm not celebrating a loss. I don't care for losers.

They should make me the commish of FIFA and I'd have the round robin with the 4 teams but only the winners coming out of a group.

I don't like the "backing in" to the group of 16. Should be a group of 8.

Someone tell me why my train of thought is off base?

No one's celebrating a loss, people are celebrating us getting through the group stage ( the overall results of three games)

Please explain how your round robin would work and how the US would not advance in it.

If you were the commish of FIFA you would be interested in making money and thus, you would want to have as many games possible, which requires two teams from every group.

I'm not sure why people are complaining. This is a tournament.

We made it out possibly one of the hardest groups ever in a world cup. I can care less about the past results.

So you changing the CWS, too?

I mean Vandy just won a natty a day after losing to the same team.

Everyone play everyone. And ties go to goal differential and what other tie breakers are in place. The top dog in the group of 4 advances. Not really that hard to understand

how do you see this as backing in to the round of 16?

the whole point of the game is to take as many points as possible from each game. 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. in no world did we "back in" to the round of 16. we got enough points and did enough to win the tie break. this is a huge accomplishment because this group was widely regarded as the toughest group in the tournament top to bottom.

So, if you qualify for a place in the playoffs via a wild card, you should take up residence over seas?

Seriously. The worst part of today's result is that it's given all the soccer trolls an excuse to bash the World Cup. They still have yet to provide to me a legitimate sport that you can't lose and still be alive in.

So I assume you don't celebrate the Saints Super Bowl win?
Considering the Saints clinched the number one overall seed on a weekend they lost but the Vikings happened to lose as well. In fact the saints only had to win 3 games after backing their way into the playoffs, the USA will have to win 4.

Why don't you tell us how today is any different than the countless NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL teams who have clinched playoff spots after losses?

the point is to win the whole thing, right? we didn't win shite by advancing out of the group. all we did was take a step in the direction of the ultimate goal - winning the WC.

No but THIS IS THE PLAYOFFS. They have qualifying matches that I would consider the reg season. In the playoffs you win or you go home. In the playoffs you win 2nd out of a group of 4 and people blow up FB like we are world beaters
