Nah, JK is very ego driven. He has a history of this with Germany and the US. Hendo can give you a shite ton if quotes from many of the German players. JK had a falling out with star Michael Ballack. Lots of the great German players believe he was laughable as their coach.
Just a week ago, Tim Howard said that Landon is one of the top two players (the other being Bradley of course). Do you not trust his judgment? I get he is a player and not a coach, but he has played with Landon for like a decade in both club and country. Howard also serves as an analyst at times for EPL games. He directs our defense. Howard knows what the frick he is talking about as well. Something has to be up if someone ranks Donovan at 2 and the other sees him as 24. That is a laughable gap.

You're right, it was more Klinsmann saying Donovan said he would play if called up, which isn't quite the same thing.

Sure, but i also trust the coach to not make a decision that's not in the best interest of the team and based only on ego.
Or at least i'm willing to allow that such is the case, and that ego isn't the only explanation for donovan not going.

That is bullshite. Samir Nasri was left off France for being a twat. There have been plenty of guys unjustly left out, but this is just illogical.

But Jurgen's basically the next Die Hard villain. He did this all to dismantle America and embarrass Landon Donovan. I can not fathom grown men taking someone being left off a team this hard and personal.
I don't care if Clint Dempsey needs Landon to sing in his ear every night to fall asleep. If the coaching staff thinks this is our direction, there's no fricking reason to lose your marbles and give up on the team or start coaching drama bullshite. The best part of all of this is how quickly this will all mean nothing with success. Yet, the geniuses of the TigerDroppings Soccer Board are outraged and doubt a coach with a successful record because they obviously know better.
It's pathetic. It's never that they just may know better. There's always some deeper reason why something happened or some controversy, soap opera bullshite around here. Maybe Landon Donovan's fat arse showed up and played badly. Maybe Brad Davis worked harder and wanted it more than LD. Maybe Julian Green ran harder and played hungrier than LD.
I don't give a shite what he's done or what he may do. If he's not hungry on the pitch (which he clearly is off of it), he doesn't have a place on the roster. If he wanted to go, he should have complained less about what he can't do and why he can't train hard and matched people like Brad Davis who are with him in age. All he's done is whine about stuff like age being an issue and practicing every day, which happens at that point in a career, but it's not what wins a World Cup. From everything Jurgen said, it seems like he wanted to 23 players who wanted it the most and could give it all every single day. I trust that. Landon is on record countering that sentiment on the topic of what he could do and wanted to do.

Maybe they did, maybe they didn't.
I just don't think Brad Davis in place of Donovan was worth this distraction and unceremoniously ending the international career of the best player we ever produced.

All those paragraphs don't matter one whit because Landon at 65% is better than Brad Davis at 100% all day, every day.
And no one can convince me otherwise.
I've said it ten times now and I'll say it again, if Landon was cut for someone who was a young superstar, with international experience, and comparable talent, I would be sad but not pissed.
Brad Davis is OLDER than Landon, has less international experience, and unarguably less talented in every facet of the game.
Fitness and "heart" does not trump talent and experience.
And no one can convince me otherwise.

Yeah, Landon certainly didn't help himself with all of this words recently. Like everybody doesn't know he's not in the same shape he was in 2002. No reason to come out and all but state that you aren't going to buy into what the coach wants.
Also, to whoever asked the question further up the page, no I don't put a lot of stock into what Tim Howard says. He's a platitudidizer.

It's not enough to cap-tie Julian Green and John Brooks (and to a lesser extent, Timmy Chandler). They need a taste of the glory. The German-Americans could be core pieces of the national team for years to come, and this is how Klinsmann is securing it.
But so far, they have shown no indication they are ready for the international stage. Brooks looked like a mess against Ukraine in March. Green looked, well, green in his one appearance with the national team.
Did Klinsmann promise Green a spot on the final roster in exchange for committing to the U.S.? It certainly looks like it, because the Bayern Munich reserve has shown no indication he is ready to play in an actual World Cup against actual World Cup teams like Germany, Portugal or even Ghana. Neither has Brooks. (Chandler, at least, has a better case, due to the team's question marks at right back. He now projects as a starter.)
You could extrapolate this further to include the choice of Brooks over better veteran alternatives at center back, but those are situations are grayer. The Donovan situation is black and white.
There is no true U.S. best 11 that does not include Donovan. Period, end of story. Even if you dispute that, surely you can't claim he is not part of the best 23.
I could sit here and lay out a bunch of reasons why, but I don't need to. U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard does it best.
"For me, it's a very easy equation: If Landon is on the field, he's our top one or two players," Howard told MLSsoccer.com."That's just my opinion ... For me, he's easily one of our best players and he strikes fear in our opponents."
You remember Donovan's heroics in the 2010 World Cup. You saw Donovan in the Gold Cup. You've seen him in MLS. (He may have gotten off to a slow start goals-wise this year, but he remains in the league's top 10 in key passes and crosses, which is where his value lies for the national team.) Nobody needs to tell you what he's capable of.
And no coach not named Klinsmann would choose Brad Davis over Donovan. Not even Davis's club coach. Davis's crossing and set piece ability do not eclipse all that Donovan brings to the table. This aspect of the roster effectively confirms the sentiment that Donovan's exclusion was a conscious decision intended to send a message.
The U.S. drew the ultimate Group of Death with Germany, Portugal and Ghana, and their chances of getting out of the group never looked good.
But it's different when I say that as an outsider and when the coach says it with his actions and sends an inferior team to face them.
Klinsmann just gave up on the 2014 World Cup. Not just because he excluded one key player - although that's a big part of it - but rather because of the message he sent to his entire team. No player is bigger than the team, but right now, Klinsmann certainly is. He didn't pick the 23 players that give the U.S. team the best chance to win in Brazil.
