I mean, Landon has been doing that on the reg for the USMNT.

In no way am I saying that I think Davis > Donovan. I just could see JK's reasoning if he doesn't consider Donovan a viable option out wide anymore.

I fully admit to watching zero Landon Donovan games since the Gold Cup, where, IIRC, he played in the hole.

Yes, but he is much better on the right.

Garbage.

Not even those of us that are the most ardent defenders of Landon have said he should start or thought he would start.

Want to talk about a media shite storm?

Down 1-0 against Germany with 10 minutes left. Klinsmann brings in Davis or Wondo to give us a miracle equalizer. USA loses 1-0.

ESPN proceeds to let Alexi and Taylor play the clips of Landon saving the day - IE Algeria - over and over and asking "What if Landon had been there?". Klinsmann's choices are the story.

Same situation but Landon made the cut and comes off the bench and we get the same result? The story is how the USMNT played tough but lost against a better side. The stories about Landon would be about his swan song with the team.

If you agree with Klinsmann's decision or not, he has effectively made the USMNT's success at this WC about his decision to leave Landon home because THAT is what the public will understand. Not tactics, not line ups, not formations.

We do well, it won't matter. But if we don't, Klinsmann will be the focus. He better coach the best of his life and hope he's right.

Well yeah, but he is still better on the left than Brad Davis is.

Right, but in games when he played with Dempsey post-gold cup, he has played on the left side and looked decent-to-good outside of that last friendly against Mexico.

All of this whiny bitching about Landy being left out is so over the top, it's laughable. I want to be upset about it, but this has gone to another level. Everyone acts like Cakes would have definitely scored at any point that we were down a goal. Keep it up, your tears are sweet.

It's all pretty obvious to me.

1. There are not, by any measure, 23 American players better than Landon Donovan.

2. Landon Donovan is not on the 23 man roster.

It was clearly a decision JK made based on personal issues, because there's no logical way one can believe this is better for our team.

This is all without factoring in other national team members' comments and the disrespectful tweet by our coach's son, which is even more damning evidence against those that think this was a good decision.

I think it is. Anyone knows L.D. is still in the top 20 field players.

L.D. was on the bench vs. Mexico in the recent friendly, does anyone have any quotes as to what he said at the time about not starting ?

Maybe he displayed a bad attitude about coming of the bench, etc.

The only reason I see anyone not including L.D. in the 23 is that he wasn't in the starting 11 plans and the coach felt he wouldn't take it well.

Nobody is arguing this. You don't take the best 23, you take the best number at each position. He didn't make the team. DWI

Yes, because it's such a stretch to assume that the leading goal scorer in USMNT history might score.

And you need better reading comprehension - in my scenario I DON'T have Landon scoring. My point was what ESPN and the sports media will make the story.

The average ESPN viewer doesn't have deep soccer knowledge and ESPN will pander to what they know. What they know is Landon Donovan.

In short, you're a dick and suck at reading.

I didn't read your post. I've seen your whining enough over the past 24 hours to know your too upset to be logical.

This board bitches endlessly about ESPN pandering to the average fan. The decision has been made. Move the frick on. Or keep crying. It's pretty funny. Landon probably gives less fricks than you crazies.

Yeah, my saying we had no reason to leave one of our better players at home is one hell of a conspiracy theory.

No one is forcing you to read the discussion.

There's plenty of other places to be an obnoxious dickhole. Have you tried the OT?

There is no discussion. Just a whiny circle jerk about an aging, slow, average player getting left off of the squad.

It always confuses me to when people jerk themselves off to the point of bleeding by being assholes to people on the Internet. You're not even in the stratosphere of being the least bit productive and are just openly antagonizing people.

It must feel awesome.
