Damn. That is just a bit more than Louisiana's population. If Louisiana ever produces a player of Modric's quality (or Rakitic or whoever else they have) I will be very, very content.

Yeah, that's really how a country as rich and large as the US could become a real threat on the world stage in the future.
However, the people of Iceland supported paying taxes for these expensive government projects.

I would imagine more of our cost would go towards getting coaches certified than anything. We don't need indoor soccer facilities built everywhere. Also we have whales like Nike, UA, etc that we could try to tap into for investment.

I think we need more small sided fields to improve our technique. Doesn't necessarily need to be indoor but a lot of time that's what those fields are.

Yeah, it would seem to be all about a high saturation of excellent coaches available free to kids everywhere.
A bit unrealistic on the level (ratio of kid to coach) of an Iceland but seemingly what would make a nation like the USA (or China) a real threat in just over decade.

5x5, 7x7 fields are very needed. Kids don't need to see a full pitch or a 5 sized ball for a while.....
They need to learn technique (to their GOd given capability), spacing and tactics.

Indeed. It almost seems like our efforts should be concentrated in cities like LA, Houston, Chicago, etc to get the ball rolling so to speak. Lay out a blue print on how to do it in these bigger cities and let it grow from there.
