Has Freese explained his brain fart ground kick in a statement?

I haven't been able to stomach reading much about this since last night.

I will never understand how you can make that error in a competitive match, much less the knockout round of the world cup. You're 10 yards outside your own box, under pressure, and you're trying to pull of a cruyff turn. Just boot it to the other end under every single circumstance.

Yeah this is not a time for being big-brained

Even peak-Neuer playing SK would have booted that ball and not tried to play out of the back

Right.

Every synapse in his brain should have been firing "DANGER! CLEAR IT OUT OF HERE AS FAST AS YOU CAN"

Right

If anyone is even remotely near you have to send that to the other end or 20 rows up into the stands.

I’ve seen a couple other keepers get pressure, but they either cleared it immediately or knew exactly where the pass needed to go.

Freese melted down and did what you never, ever, EVER do as a keeper. He tried to pass it backwards, towards his own goal.

There is no explaining it… Other than nerves short-circuiting his brain.

The way the foot drags looks like he got caught in two minds. He hesitated. You don't hesitate, you clear the ball anywhere and live to fight another day.

All the Harvard-educated proprietary goalie analytics couldn't stop his leg from Freese-ing in the biggest moment of his career.

If not he needs to soon! He needs to swallow the humiliation he earned! We all hate him

We still had over 30 minutes left in the game when that happened. We had all the time in the world to fight back in front of our home crowd, down one. God I’m still frothing at the mouth over that.

And had them on their heels defensively. We were probing and making headway. Team was starting to play with confidence, Pulisic gets hurt, Freese brain fart...whole stadium gave up, including most of the 26 with the crest on their chest. The next time I thought they might fight back was when Berhalter said F it and missed by inches. That sequence is the difference in that game being an embarrassment and being something that would have been a sense of pride, whether because they fought to the end against a superior side, or overcame a slow first half to find a way to advance. Kick it out, get Pulisic off, we find the equalizer and this is a game where UEFA and the RBFA are still complaining this morning instead of laughing at us.
