It's not every day someone can get their own special on a network pregame, have their entire career celebrated, be loved by adoring fans, change the game forever, and at the same time wouldn't be able to make the mens D squad at their peak prime.

When I read it, I didn't interpret it was dual nationals right away. I was just trying to see if her statements weren't as inflammatory as people were taking it.
If she felt that way, I would have thought something like this would have crept out before.

She's saying the $515 Mil should be put in a pool and split evenly between the men's and women's tournament. She's right that it would cost nothing extra. That's not hard to understand unless you are dense.
On the other hand, I don't agree with her that the men and women should be paid the same unless they pull in the same ratings, sponsorships, etc.

Welcome to capitalism, Abby. If you don't like or understand that concept, maybe it's you who should not have represented the US.
But seriously, this argument isn't even close to relevant to the "equal pay for equal work" effort that is going on in America. "Equal work" implies that the same economic effect is being made by your work. You don't compare what a man working near the top of a Fortune 500 company makes with what a woman in the same position at a less successful business is making. You make your cut of the pie based on what your "company" (in this case, team) brings in to US soccer.

Where does the money come from? If it's the US federation (in which case the numbers sound high) the women are underpaid. The USWNT is more popular and more successful.
If it's coming from FIFA I sympathize but I understand. The rest of the world is the opposite of the US when it comes to soccer--the men's game is THE sport and the women's game is an afterthought.
Instead of splitting the FIFA money evenly (if that's what she's asking), there's an easier solution. The US federation should help the women's players land endorsement contracts. Between teenage girls and drooling male groupies, players like Alex Morgan, Heather O'Reilly, Carli Lloyd, etc. should be very marketable.

I think these quotes from Donovan are much more tactful and telling of the situation than Wambach's rant. Donovan understand the frustration of other players left out in favor of the Germericans. Donovan also calls out guys like Julian Green and the aforementioned Timmy Chandler who clearly don't give a shite about the national team. Meanwhile, guys like Mix Diskerud, Terrence Boyd, along with Jones and Johnson clearly have pride in the American half of their dual-nationalities while representing the national team.

Amen. I wanted to post this exact thing earlier but my phone died right after I coped this from the Ives article on it. Donovan was way more tactful. He also made more sense and sounded less xenophobic without saying something like "frick all dual nationals." For sure there is a difference between Chandler and Jones/Boyd (Boyd being arguably more "American" than many of our home grown players).

Also, consider the interviewer in both of these situations. Bill Simmons, whom I like as an NBA podcaster, is pandering to a much broader audience and notoriously mangles any discussions about soccer. Donovan is talking to Eric Wynalda--a douche bag of a human being and commentator, but someone who understands the sport and the pulse of the national team.

Funny thing about what Wambach said is her own coach is a hired gun from England.
