That would be a feature, not a bug. I can't think of a single reason for the US to be a NATO member. Russia is a major trade partner for nearly every member. Why would we need to protect them from their own trade partner?
We need to throw a large base or two in Poland and one or two other countries that actually appreciate it, and call it a day. Save trillions of dollars.

What does that have to do with this situation? NATO's defense obligations only cover attacks on member states in Europe or North America.

A better question might be....why do we insist on spending 100s of billions in Ukraine, far greater atrocities are happening all over the world and we dont do jack sht about it. For some odd reason we want to start a world war over a country with a gdp smaller than Texas and we wont lift a finger to stop the invasion in that state, why???
