You just exposed yourself as a weak minded pussy. I grew up poor, I oppose entitlements and welfare. I have student debt, I oppose forgiveness. There's these things called principles. You should find some.

Same.

The Constitution is bigger than any individual, no matter how much passion they have on an issue, and no matter how strongly they feel an issue has personally affected them.

It really is that simple.

OP tossed in a few "grenades" but when they were thrown back, he bailed from the thread.. Especially love the drunk driver / alcohol comparison...

My stance would not change. Ever. I know theres absolutely nothing, NOTHING, we can do to stop crazy people from killing others. To say or think otherwise is just being ignorant. But it must be nice for people to just be able to flip flop constantly because their local news agency, who has no agenda whatsoever, tells them what to believe because they cant think for themselves.

Did this happen in BR in the late 80's?

I wouldn’t be worried about any gun control stance. I’d be too busy grieving my loved one.

Not everything is about politics.

This whole premise of this thread is one big appeal to emotion fallacy.

So, for now, you're pro-second amendment? Just waiting for a family member to get gunned down before you change?

It wasn't in a Walmart situation, but My Dad lost his life to a criminal with a gun. My Dad handled a lot of money.
He always said, " there's no reason for me to carry a gun, it's just money and it's easy to get, it's nothing to die or kill for. They rob me, hell I'll give it to them.

It's unsolved, so I don't really know exactly how he figured wrong. Unsolvable equation, because I don't know all of the factors.

I do know this, if you are armed, you have a chance. If you are unarmed, you have no chance. None.

I don't know why anyone would answer your post since you start off by saying people are liars if they believe they wouldn't change their stance if it happened to them.

It doesn't change one bit. Gun control isn't the answer to mass shootings and won't stop these and never will

This is the single dumbest statement I've ever read on this Board.

Do you vote? Do you make decisions that impact others? Please say no

I’ve had loved ones killed by different things and it didn’t make me want to ban anything.

I would naturally want justice on the one who committed the crime. Preferably by my own hands.

Let’s see who will be honest with themselves and post it here if this scenario played out. Could you really not see your stance changing on some form of gun control after such an event? I doubt it Discuss

I've had a family member murdered with a gun along with a friend shooting themselves, and my gun control stance is no different. I am pro 2nd amendment and for not infringing on the rights of the many for the actions of a few. You do not legislate based on what tragedies that happen in such low occurrences.

It's tragic when these things occur, but there are approximately the same number of cars and trucks in America as there are guns. Guns are responsible for less than half as many deaths as automobiles and yet we don't restrict automobile ownership. Not to mention automobiles are not protected by the constitution.

I haven't posted on the PoliBoard in forever...and yet this idiotic post kind of forced my hand.

I guess I'll have to answer in a similar way to Michael Dukakis from the 1988 debates where he said no, his stance on capital punishment would not change simply because his wife had been raped and murdered.

LINK

See...the thing is...if you've arrived at your stance on any issue logically and you have any strength to your convictions, the mere fact that you and your family are now involved in such a situation should in no way alter your beliefs. Oddly enough, it would make one such a terrible human being to basically have two sets of books...one for everyone else and one for yourself.

In fact, there was a great comment on that video which works well here:

Only in America could someone putting aside personal emotion to not be a hypocrite and stand by their principles be considered a "flub."
