re: “You can’t lie to the American people about affordability”

When a normal American home costs $4500 per month in monthly payment, taxes, insurance we have a major affordability problem
Get private equity money out of single family homes. Greed is the biggest issue with the housing market. Should be taxing rental properties and second homes at twice the primary home rates. Make it unprofitable to hold homes.
Subsidizing homes through Section 8 and first buyer incentives doesn't help either.

This isn’t a “lol, the barista with a women’s studies degree can’t afford a 4br house” problem. The engineering grads are struggling to find jobs. The computer science folks with a decade of experience are getting laid off. Food that cost $1 5 years ago now costs $4. This is the worst job market I have ever seen, and unlike 2008, there’s no housing correction or deflation to cushion the blow. Housing and food are steady or rising while jobs are disappearing by the hundreds of thousands.
Exactly. The older people just don’t understand. We’re not upset that the barista cant afford a 4 bedroom home. We’re upset that the engineer earning $115k per year can’t afford the 4 bedroom home. We’re upset that the young husband and wife making $150k combined feels that they can’t afford to have a 2nd child. If you didn’t buy a home 5-6 years ago you need to make about $200k combined to live a middle class lifestyle with a family of 5

I keep seeing this narrative that people know how much they’re spending at the grocery store, and therefore, Trump is gaslighting the American people.
Lucky for us, there’s actually data on these things. It’s called inflation!
Groceries skyrocketed during the previous administration. The fact that something previously unaffordable is now just 1.5% more expensive than it was does not make it suddenly affordable

again, there’s data on unemployment. and you’re right it is increasing, but we’re talking about going from a low of ~3.5% to now 4.3%. i wouldn’t say we’re in crisis mode.
you’re referencing anecdotal trends and made-up food inflation. the whole point of this thread was to say, “look at the numbers.” average wage gains are outpacing inflation. i don’t disagree that the job market is cooling, but your doomsday view that nobody can find a job is just untrue.

Surprise surprise surprise.
Sociology, psychology, African studies, womens studies majors etc. with student loans for those degrees cannot afford to buy a house. How about engineers, accountants, scientists, mathematicians, lawyers, doctors, finance professionals, economists, etc. ? All can afford houses in today's market. Don’t get bs degrees, rather learn a trade.
Save money, live within your means, accumulate wealth for a down payment. Sort off what we did 41 years ago. Mortgage interest was 12.75 %. You don’t start with a dream home or McMansion.

Can you cite the October 2025 government data on inflation and employment?

no matter how well you explain it, boomers dont give a shite

look up the stat “real median weekly earnings”. the average American finally has more purchasing power now than they did in 2019.

But I think the public expected prices to go back down to 2019 levels.
Affordability problems in other areas like houses and cars. You are correct

Go to WalMart. Go down the meat section. Then, go down the diabetes aisle (sodas and chips)
Prices are out of control. This narrative that Trump has lowered prices is 100% bullshite. Only his most delusional sycophants like SDVCuck and FatBastard believe that

i can’t because Schumer shut down the government.

It’s real. Our sales have been stagnant this year despite gaining several new lines of product. The people in our industry are 99% Trump supporters, but he has lost popularity with them. Almost all would still support, but they would be holding their nose at this point.

I was at the grocery store and looked at a whole chicken that I paid $10-$15 for about two years ago, it was $30.

What about the median?

Not true. I’m older Gen X, but I see my two sons, who both make substantially more than I, struggling to make ends meet.
The simple fact is that cost of living has significantly outpaced wage increases for quite some time.

The Covid spending under Trump and Biden is coming home to roost.

That’s a bit too personal my friend. I’m sure you know thatbif a man in his 50s with a business and kids in college and a lifetime of experience and hard work says his personal threshold has been surpassed, he probably know what he’s talking about. Again though- happy for your prosperity.

What does that have to do with the current inflation rate?
You really are the lowest iq person
