WTF was that commercial?

Just saw a commercial that was basically a propaganda video extolling the virtues of Trump. It was- interesting?- just with the content. All about Al being anti-communist and anti-socialist. Fair enough. But the music repeated “love me” underneath the ad. And the kicker, for me, was the tag at the end “paid for by the US Government”. That’s a huge problem in my eyes. But what do I know?

I have no idea what anyone else has said. I don’t watch news programming as a general rule. I was watching Big Brother with my wife and the commercial aired. It was pretty jarring to me. Maybe I’m overreacting for some reason but this was just over the line for me.

Being that the "US Government" paid for the ad, I guess it will be the taxpayer that has to pay off the artist whose song they used without permission.

It should be a problem for all taxpaying Americans.
I'm pretty sure using public money in this way for political campaigns is illegal, but a little thing like "against the law" has never stopped this presidency from perpetrating such offenses.

I don't know the legalities here but the focus was strongly of anti-communism, which might be something the US gov could make commercials about?
Sure its right before a midterm, so it's pretty clearly meant to be a campaign ad. But its carefully done to attempt to walk the line legally?

ALL artists say "they did not give permission" because they think they can sell the rights and somehow keep the rights

I stand corrected, on this the artist does have a point.
Usually Trump used the music at campaign rallies and the venue has rights to play recorded music but in this instance its just a commercial, I dont know how they can legally do that.
