It sounds like the state is being handed a major economic boom on a silver platter. I hope the politicians don’t frick it up.

Fortunately for the KSC, due to the Sargasso Sea east of it, hurricanes will go north or south of the KSC or simply lose strength. One only has to look at the Florida coast line to understand why KSC was placed on that Cape.

Have never heard KSC was chosen because it offered some natural protection from storms. It was at one time the lightning strike capital of the world.

I think it was chosen primarily to take advantage of the Earth's rotation (as close as they get to the equator, laumch to the east over water, and while on the mainland).

FTR, KSC suffered significant damage from Hurricane Jeanne in 2004.

I think this is a secret agenda of Elon's to launch lefties out to Mars.
Or... At least I'm hoping so.

I don't like it because Pecan Island is one of my three fishing places. I recently helped a buddy build a new camp down there. That will all be gone. Got nothing to do with "librul" and everything to do with shrimp and crabs and easy fishing in an unpopulated area.

I can agree. I don't like the destruction of this natural habitat that provides a great ecosystem and great hunting, fishing etc for people.

Does LSU Alum Jim Flores still have his duck hunting mansion and airstrip down there? Is he the one that sold to SpaceX?

ETA: I see this is right on the coast well southeast of the Flores duck hunting compound.

Since it is to be self supporting with propellants, to reach Elon's 30 launches per day will require the world's largest air separation plant with liquefier for LOX. it will also need and LNG plant large enough to fill and ocean LNG carrier every 3 days. LNG at existing terminals isn't pure enough. Suppliers will build and operate those. More JOBS
