So, basically, a consumption tax = I can keep all my money as long as I don't buy anything.
How is this different from a national sales tax?

I'll hang up and listen.

No.

Now...if ALL personal and employer taxes were switched for consumption taxes, then yes (not just income, but SS, Medicare, etc.)

A National VAT tax that everyone pays is the only truly fair way to tax people. Don’t want to pay taxes? Don’t spend money.

And what effect would a tax system that discourages consumer spending have on our economy?

Be happy to. If all taxes are consumer tax then obviously those goods will be more expensive. Like really expensive. A TV was $600 now $2000. I'll just steal yours.

They'd invent a way to tax 'unrealized' purchases.

Absolutely. Assuming income tax is gone, gone, gone, and NEVER to return.

Gets the illegal aliens paying taxes and reduces the IRS bureaucracy. For you democRATS, it's actually progressive...a Ford is functionally identical to a BMW, but the latter would generate more taxes, assuming a flat rate.

That said, it's really a pointless discussion because it will NEVER happen (unless it's an additional tax). Each person determines how much and when they pay taxes, and neither party in Congress is willing to return that kind of power to the People.

No. As many times as “income” has been defined and redefined, I’d hate to find out what their definitions of “consumption” would be.

Well it’s a good point but in my opinion it’s anywhere from purchase of property to purchase of investments and including some sort of carbon tax for the earth first crowd.

A consumption tax is the fairest form of taxation and coincidentally it would address the the concerns of those who care about climate change since it would directly impact a carbon footprint.

Wanna lower your taxes? Consume less. Consume less, less carbon emissions

If the government prints money and runs massive deficits to fund the government why do we need an income tax?

If a national retail sales tax were instituted in place of the current income tax structure, you'd likely find many Americans soften their stance against the evils of criminal aliens being here in the US. They still need to follow immigration laws, but at least they'd be paying into the system while they did it.

The structure of H.R. 25 completely eliminated the tax burden for families at the poverty line, and empowers Americans to keep their whole paycheck.

Why aren't Democrats demanding their lawmakers pass this bill immediately?

I’m for tariffs. Tariffs are a consumption tax and place some of the burden on non-Americans. Basically the best type of tax ever. I’d eliminate every other type of tax.

Screw that. If everybody votes, everybody needs to pay.

The vast majority of people, not just the poor, pay less than their "fair share", only the top 5% do.
