I just wanted him to understand that Jesus is better than a good earthly life.

I’m not judging anyone. The fact that people judge each other at all is prof their is a ultimate judge.

Absolutely not...because compromising truth, moral/faith based principles, and selling your soul is exactly what we are losing! You would be making a lateral move here Sir Winston!

I can tell from your experience that you like this "oasis" but these are all trappings the Bible warned us of when it says the road to destruction is wide and the path to righteousness is narrow!

Yes I do. In part because of the corroborating texts that are in existence but also admittedly faith is involved.

Technically he didn't heal by spitting in eyes, he healed through his divine powers the external signs were for those around him.

Exactly! I put my occasional potty mouth aside to teach a lesson on Samson to the kids at my church for my rotation of children's church. I was going into detail about how the whole long hair thing worked and unfortunately they got too caught up on the hair. I then caught a break because when I finally broke through to them that is was not the hair in and of itself that was the key to the passage, it hit them hard and was more impactful than had they not gotten thrown off initially.

The same applies to what you said...it was not the act of spitting in the eyes, it was the power behind it and the faith involved. Very good analysis!

As someone who grew up there and doesn't live far from there still, I find this hard to believe. I am not saying you're wrong, but I've never heard this in my life.

I'd be willing to bet members from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been all over south Louisiana the last couple of weekends giving their time and talents cutting up trees, tarping roofs and providing materials and labor at their own expense to just about anyone asking for help.

In spite of selling their souls to Satan

After Katrina I met a group from TN that were camping in South MS for a week helping people. They were awesome on the chainsaws, the church doesn't even pay their expenses but it does help with equipment and materials.

In my home town the Southern Baptist preacher is basically the most powerful person in town. The head of that church was just an incredible piece of shite. Once a teen admitted to him that he was having homosexual feelings and was trying to fight it off and needed help. So what did the minister do? Outed him to the entire congregation the next sermon and said we no longer feel safe with you in our church.

Then my mother (we were Episcopalian) started a petition to make our county a wet county. My mom got the number of signatures she needed for it to go to vote. Somehow this preacher gets his hands on the petition and everyone who signed it. He then announces members of the congregation who signed it and similarly banned them from the church as well.

Then a few months later, he’s caught fricking his secretary (and yes he was married). Then for whatever reason he became all about forgiveness, when he gave that to no one else. That was a pretty eye opening event for people that went to my school that also went to that church.

Not just no, but HELL no.

I grew up in the JW cult and wasted 35 years living a fake life. JW's are a lot like Mormons- visibly preaching in communities, clean lifestyles, hard working. What is presented to the outside world is far different from what happens behind closed doors. The psychological and emotional abuse, brainwashing, and stripping away any sort of individual identity is a worldwide program that preys on the weak and vulnerable. The fear mongering to keep people in line and giving everything they have to men in New York is a money making racquet. It's a "high control" group that dictates what you can wear, what you can watch, what you can listen to, who your friends are(even in your own family), your medical procedures, your education, your hobbies, every single aspect of your life is controlled by a few men claiming to be God's spokesmen.

Further, as has been mentioned about Mormons, the amount of sexual abuse, rape, and incest that occurs is astonishing. Because JW's strictly adhere to the "two witness" rule regarding accusations, they've sheltered thousands of pedophiles who went largely unchecked. A Royal Commission investigating child sex abuse in Australia discovered internal records of over 1,000 pedophiles and rapists active in congregations. The Australian Branch Office sent written direction to bodies of elders to discourage families from going to authorities because of what it would do to the reputation of the JW's.

Every organized religion believes they have the true understanding of the scriptures, but JW's quite arrogantly go a step further. They refer to the religion as "The Truth." But when you allow a few men in a compound to twist scripture and create doctrine to fit an agenda, that isn't truth. When you would rather protect a sexual abuser for the sake of reputation than actually keep a congregation clean, that isn't truth. They have no problem shunning other people they excommunicate from the congregation for far less, but they can't have any negative headlines in the news! It's hypocrisy at the highest levels in the "religion" and truly is a cult.

It is better, in my opinion, to have a personal relationship with God, faith that he has a reward for those who love him, and to have love for your neighbor than to be a hypocrite in a religion/cult for the sake of its perceived advantages.

It’s a cult? Mormon’s don’t fully believe the Bible? Mormonism is just as much a lie as satanism?…. This is some of the stupidest b.s. I’ve read in a long time.

I think what you mean is,”they don’t believe as you think they should. Therefore, it’s equivalent to satanism.”….

Maybeyou’re right. Let’s stick with those corrupt and abusive Catholics? Or maybe the Protestants who are all about some gay rights, gay marriage, and transgenderism. Hey, how about those lovely baptists (which I suspect you may be). With the hatred that spews from them in regard to religion - can’t imagine why anyone is not clambering to join these groups. …

But judge mental tech grads on an irreverent sports board is certainly going to draw in followers and believers in Christ.

Are you familiar with either the teachings of Christianity or Mormonism? You don't sound like you are.

That doesn't mean either religion is true, but if you know anything about the systems it is clear that Mormonism is not just another denomination of Christianity.

The teachings about Christ are entirely different. And I mean the fundamental Mormon teachings about Christ are vastly different than any Christian denomination I have ever heard of.

And as for Satan, Mormons believe that Christ and Satan are brothers. Not exactly Satanism, but definitely not Christianity.

I am very familiar with the teachings. I took the religions classes as LSU in the way back machine. I also grew up in the Mormon religion - though I’ve not been a member for over a decade.

The teachings about Christ are NOT entirely different.

The Fundamental Mormons are not members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints based in Utah.

As to Jesus and “Satan” being brothers:

LINK

This explains it clearly. Now, you may disagree with the interpretations of what is clear biblical scripture. However, that does not make members of the LDS church any less “Christian.” ….

Your lack of understanding, or unwillingness to accept the LDS’s word on what they do actually believe, shows you are either ignorant or dishonest in your presentations of “truth.”

From what I've seen, The Book Of Mormon, is supposed to go along with The Bible. The idea is that Jesus also visited America and it is a record of his preaching to the natives. I read some of it years ago, and it seems to me, based more on the Old Testament than the New Testament.

I wouldn’t convert but you are damn right about Provo being one of the nicest and cleanest towns I have ever been to.

Lots of pretty long-haired chicks in dresses doesn’t hurt either.

Some of the Mormons are a little odd but I’d take them over some of the neighbors you get in the South.

South Park had a great episode about them recently.
