Real IDs have a star on them. You would’ve provided a lot more documentation to the DMV when you got it.

I’m shocked by the level of ignorance around Real IDs since we’ve been pushed to get them for years now.

Not really more documentation, when I got my license at 17 nearly 25 years ago, I had to provide the same types of paperwork.

REALID added some record keeping requirements on the state level and database sharing with the feds which why it too so long for some states to sign on. I think they also had to keep or scan a copy for their records of your items.

I moved to Texas.
When I transferred my license, only thing they asked for is a utility bill to prove I lived in Texas now.

so unless you're calling my electric bill "a lot more documentation"

You have to have a bill with your name on it, birth certificate, and social security card. I got mine last week at one of those satellite offices. Not really a big deal. I am not sure why a TWIC card wouldn't work as well because I had to go through much more to get that.

Louisiana has been issuing Real ID since 2016. It's going to be hard for me to feel sorry for anyone that has travel disrupted because they don't have it.

nope, I don't want the FBI to know where I really live, so I put a different state to throw them off my trail.

What a crock of BS. The law has been on the books since 2005. Delays occurred multiple times since passage. The 20% who procrastinated deserve no sympathy. I have no more to give.

The state of Alabama put out information yesterday saying that a REAL ID is not required to vote in Alabama.

This is more of the republicans plan to disenfranchise voters Underprivileged people just now figured out how to get ids and the republicans are saying that’s not a “real” id

It boggles my mind how anyone that spends any time on this site doesn’t recognize your user name and immediately know.

Judging by the 5 replies, you’re fishing with dynamite today

I've never understood the rush. Majority of these people aren't flying or getting into federal buildings any time soon

No need to meet the deadline. Go get a passport if so

Why is this an issue? Real ID has been available for years, and it's been known for years that this day was coming. You can get it when you renew your license. This is not hard or challenging.

No sympathy

Agreed on it should've been done by now in most states.

My only caveat to that is, like here in Kentucky right now, they've fricked up the driver's licensing system so bad that if you have to do an in-person renewal and you're in a larger area (like Louisville) you're waiting hours even with an appointment time.

The other issue is Kentucky passed a law last session that you're required to have an official eye exam when you renew now. And the form that the state requires didn't get released until a few months after the law was passed, so if you got your eye exam in the one year grace period before your renewal but before the "official" form was sent out, you have to go back to the eye doctor's office to get the "official" form filled out. It's a hot arse mess. You can go to a branch and have them do the exam, but that's also gumming up the system.

I'm probably going to end up going to Frankfort to renew mine in the next couple of years.

I’m flying tomorrow. Looking forward to it being a shite show at TSA.

If you’re going to the OMV you’re doing it wrong. Went to one of the private title places a couple months back and was in and out in 10 mins. Well worth whatever the surcharge is.
