How about first repealing the sales taxes.
Louisiana ranks as the state with the second highest sales tax when considering state and local taxes.

That seems to be the “fairest” of all the taxes.

Not when it's over 10% in most parishes. Ever been in line behind soneone with a foodstamp card? No taxes on most items.

I would say that is what Louisiana should look at before jumping in head first.

Just post what they did. Didn't they increase property taxes an extreme amount?
Still less in property tax than what one pays in Orleans Parish.

The income tax is a punishment for working and contributing to society. It MUST be eliminated. Why punish only those who work ??????
I don't "work" but I still pay income tax. It's not a "punishment for workers".

Having lived in Louisiana and Texas, this is a horrible idea. The income tax punishes you for making money - obviously bad - but the states without income tax typically have high property tax, ie. they punish you for living there. Ever want to retire? Too bad - you have property tax to pay on the home you already bought and paid tax on to begin with!
What they should do is just get rid of the income tax and most other taxes. Politicans should not be in charge of large sums of other people's money.

Why would the government pay taxes to... the government?

1) Step one needs to be a dramatic rewrite of the state constitution which pushes a lot of government out of Baton Rouge and back to the parishes / cities
2) After Step 1, the state can eliminate the income tax and have no need to replace that revenue, since state level spending will be severely slashed due to providing much fewer services at the state level
3) Local parishes and governments will now have more reponsibilities, and they can decide how they want to pay for those at the local level. Maybe it is higher property taxes, or higher sales taxes, or fee for service revenue, parcel fees, etc. Or maybe they just cut some services.
4) In the approx 6 weeks Landry has been in office, NOTHING has been done or shown by him to make me think he actually wants to reduce state government. If anything he seems to be wanting to consolidate power. That makes me think Step 1 is off the table, and if Step 1 is off the table, we will never eliminate the state income tax.
Maybe we get some revenue-neutral simplification, maybe we got back to the budget tricks of the Jindal years where we collect less revenue but play games with spending, etc.

1- Work and make money in Texas.
2- Retire in Louisiana.
3- Profit??

State pays out unemployment assistance then it is taxed by them. My grocery bill should be tax free at the register just the same as those on government assistance. Suspend all state taxes unprepared food at grocery stores.

You do know the state of Louisiana does not charge sales tax on unprepared food, right?
The sales tax you pay at the grocery is parish / local sales tax, not state sales tax.

In Louisiana this is the exception, not the rule. Most states do not tax unemployment.

hope not. No income tax will shift even more of the burden to commercial property owners and homeowners whose property value exceeds the HE. My issue all along with “replacing” income tax is none of these clowns have even mentioned less government spending and growth.
This. One way or another whatever we spend has to be paid for. No income tax? Fine. The burden will be shifted to property taxes.

Landry will not reform state income tax, he will not propose tort reform. what he will do is latch on to immigration issue and other red meat for his GOP base while not doing a damn thing. He will make the N.O DA do his job that's bout it.
