Looks like this is going to happen.
Israel’s turn toward becoming a dictatorship
Not sure what will happened next but without an independent functioning judiciary you can’t have a functioning democracy, or a Republic.
People have the right to vote in Russia, Turkey, Iran, etc. They don’t have the right to free elections but they can vote

Whichever happens, the U.S. will be asked to increase its funding.

It certainly will if the aliens take over.

Israelis have only themselves to blame.

“The U.S. must support Israel because they are the only Western-styled democracy in that part of the world.”
At least that’s the main argument that’s been made for generations.

What a shite show. Tired of propping up a first world country because of the eschatological beliefs of the mega church crowd in this country- especially when it exposes us to anti americanism and potential terrorism from the islamic world.
Time to force israel to give back the settlements, tear down the wall and develop a true 2 state solution.

In my limited understanding of the issue, it’s an attempt to restore the balance among the branches of the Israeli government. Apparently, the Black Robes are an issue there as well as here. I am far from an expert on this topic.

No. Your source is the New Yorker, which may as well be the NYT.
The Jerusalem Post has both left and right wing writers, so you can pick amongst the editorials you wish to read on either side. Take note that the judicial reform was passed by the Kenneset, which is the legislative branch of the national government, composed of elected representatives. About 73% of Jews vote in national elections, and the Arab rate is about ten points lower than that.
Basically, the Judiciary was acting like the 9th circuit in the US, and ignoring the constitution, which are in the "11 Basic Laws." The judiciary role is documented here (11 page PDF).
The left overwhelmingly wants the judiciary to do whatever they feel like, whereas the right wants a more strict constructionist view of the roles of the different branches of government. There is some weird shite that goes on with the Ultra Orthodox, but that's nothing new.

With the current doj and fbi, the US will beat them to it.
Stop voting compromised uni-party.

Classic example of an ignorant poster who doesn't understand the issues because he just accepts the propaganda as truth. The writer of the article is butthurt because a legitimately elected and coalitioned government attempts to save the nation of Israel from its left wing tendencies, at a time when it's most crucial to protect itself from Iran and the coalition of Jihadists.
Do you even understand what the judicial reform is about? It would prevent the Israeli Supreme Court from overturning laws democratically passed in the Knesset simply because they don't like it. Also, Judicial Reform would expand the process of appointing new Supreme Court Judges. Today, only Supreme Court judges appoint new Supreme court judges. How do you think that goes? Like appoints like.
By the way, the so-called West Bank was captured in the defensive Six-day War of 1967.
