-income tax is theft
-their hourly wage is already taxed
-it was already an honor system and likely wasn’t getting captured efficiently by government anyways
-the service industry was rocked pretty hard with Covid and restaurants make up a vast majority of small businesses so any chance to help them and help them recover is good

99% aren't reported anyway, so it doesn't really change anything.

Why should anyone be taxed?

How many people accurately report the tips they earn?
All tips on credit cards are taxed.

Hmmmmmmm.... maybe because they make like $2 an hour?????
Geez....
What difference does that make? With their tips they come out above minimum wage.
Maybe we should just pay a fair wage and stop tipping all together

The US taxpayer should not be paying a dime to the federal government. All remittances should go to the state and the federal government should make a case on how much money is required to provide for national defense and each state will pay their portion, all social programs should be a state matter.

Wrong question to ask.
Right question is “why are we paying income tax at all”
We are literally the highest tax paying country
Everything is taxed into oblivion

Some variation of this thread has popped up for a year now and you get the same responses that don't actually address the question. Canned responses.

The feds take a minimum percentage your sales for the night and tax it.
It was insignificant anyway.

I guess you pay someone $.50/hour and tip them the rest of their wages.

Now, can my year-end bonus be classified as a tip from my employer for exceptional service?

Because cash tips would be treated as gifts Its not paid by their employer, nor is it required that you pay. Its like paying for a round of drinks, or buying a meal for the entire table. No one pays taxes on that unearned income
This os the correct answer.

Most cheat on reporting tips anyway, I could be wrong but I don’t thin it really

Makes no sense on its face but it could be a nice political move to get younger votes

Question is the title. I get why it made for a snappy campaign slogan, but what is a good non partisan justification for this policy?
All taxes should be remitted to the state and then the federal government needs to propose how much money is needed for defense of the nation, large nationwide infrastructure projects, etc. Once that is determined each state will remit their share to cover federal needs. All social programs should be left to each state's legislature.
