You say that as if you know anything at all about the skill set required for being in the military and it's vast knowledge areas.

agreed, you dont have a clue about life until you reach 30 and sex and drugs isnt your only thought process in life

i would also make a minimum of 5 years job experience a requirement so voters understand the value of money and earning a paycheck

So, completely repeal the RIGHT to vote and instead implement a means test to vote?

You should be careful of this. I know plenty of property owners who vote to raise their own taxes every freaking time they says "it's for the schools"...I don't own property, but I pretty much always vote NO on any new taxes, property or otherwise.

Well, they have skin in the game and if they're willing to raise taxes on themselves, then it's their decision.

People who have no skin in the game shouldn't be able to have a say.

I'm sure your mom and dad can be taught to operate a cell phone...and about that, was your dad your mom's oldest or youngest brother?

I'm sure that there are more that one correct answer that went into the decision.

1) Vietnam (draft)
2) Considered an adult (finished HS)
3) Expected to be working (paying taxes)

If we don’t have a problem with 97 year olds voting, we shouldn’t have a problem with 18 year olds voting.

If the argument is that only those with enough knowledge of the system, enough cognitive capacity to process the information and enough stake in the outcome should be allowed to vote you could realistically restrict voting rights to those who own property and pay taxes from ages 25 to 75 or so. Anyone younger will often lack the experience and knowledge and anyone older could very easily lack the cognitive capacity and has very little stake in the game anymore (given they are usually retired with a life expectancy of only 5-10 years).

Republican must suppress voting. Must suppress voting. Voting bad.

Because when it passed people actually cared about freedom and not just Instagram.

you can't make someone pay taxes and not let them vote. That's taxation without representation. It's the only legitmaite arguing point the "voting age should be lowered" crowd actually has. One solution is to just not make people under the age of 18 pay income taxes but then childhood stars make that dubious. I think war should be the barometer. IMO if you can get drafted, you can vote.

Very weak argument. How many 97 year-old people are around to vote compared to 18 year-olds? Besides, I'd trust the wisdom of a 97 year-old in their right mind as compared to an 18 year-old in their right mind. That being said, if 18 year-olds are admitted into the service then they are damn well entitled to vote. That's about the only reason I have for today's 18 year-olds having the right to vote.
