THe US is too chicken sh!t to do that. They were scared to let China know that we were selling them the current production block of F-16s years back. The changed the Prod Block number of the F-16 we sold to China so that China thought they were getting older block airplanes.

They didn't want to upset them. Well China doesn't care that they are upsetting Japan or our allies when they build island bases out of thin air in the sea.

S. Korea has nukes....why not Taiwan. I hope they do

I’m struggling to think of a worse idea than shipping nukes to Taiwan. You know, the country that operated as a de facto military junta for most of its existence.

It would do nothing whatsoever to deter anything that China wants to do, and would only make the United States look (even more) hypocritical.

It would give russia, China, etc free reign to proliferate their nukes whereever they wanted and oh yea, it would start world war three in the Taiwan strait.

Imagine our reaction if a country gave nukes to Iran to protect them from us and Israel. We'd consider it an act of war.

China has already started the war by creating and releasing the virus on us and the world.....and we are still sitting here with our dicks in our hands. China has compromised 60% of our government....all of the dems and about 10%, and growing, of the pubs.
I am not hopeful that this can be fixed.

Israel has had nukes for 30 years.
yeah probably ours

The issue would be that Taiwan has no plausible way to develop their own, so anyone else would know that an ally is giving them their nukes

It’s a shame that it’s too late to put the genie back in the bottle of the only nuclear capable nations being ones that we trust

Pretty much but Taiwan is more than capable when it comes to developing nukes but its something that was heavily discouraged by the US govt in the 70's and 80's

The RSA and Israel developed nukes.
Taiwan is just as capable as either of those 2 countries.

History of their nuclear program goes back to the 60's

or here is an idea...stop giving a frick about other countries. why the frick do we need to be the worlds policeman?

Stop giving our military tech to anyone including so called allies and stop allowing american companies to sell anything to fricking anyone.

Let them spend their own money and sacrifice their own fellow countryman.

America first and always. I hate the commies, but i dont want my friends or family involved in some shite over some fricking island in asia that i nor anyone I know will visit.

Don’t need to. We gave them cruise middle technology. They probably have enough to swarm the defenses around several damns.

Let water do the work.

You don't think that Taiwan already has them? China would have already claimed them back if they didn't. Think Russia/Crimea.

Is this a serious thread?

You do not ever, ever trust any other country with your nukes. Period.

1. You don’t know if Taiwan will fire the nukes at the US some day. You don’t trust allies to always remain on your side, especially countries like Taiwan that are little more than “enemy of my enemy” allies.

2. Even worse, if China conquers Taiwan, then China will have Taiwan’s nukes. Yeah, giving China our nukes- wouldn’t that be great?

There’s no really good, humane path forward on Taiwan. If we are talking strictly for US interests then seems we are better off arming them for traditional warfare and hoping it becomes their version of Vietnam. Of course the humanitarian crisis that would create for a densely populated island nation of it had to rely on food imports would be disastrous, especially if other countries aren’t willing to openly declare war on China.

If they wanted one, they'd do like everyone else and get it from Pakistan. We pay them as an "ally" to try and prevent that, but the last 30 years of track records show that strategy to be a massive failure.

Did you mean to say N. Korea? The US previously had nuclear weapons stationed in SK.

A. It's none of our business.

B. Our establishment sucks the teet of China.

C. Our politicians suck the teet of China.

D. It's none of our business.

E. Our country doesn't give a frick about Taiwan, Taiwanese citizens, the history of Taiwan, or the connection between China and Taiwan. The only reason we used to have any sort of connection with Taiwan... was to keep China in check. Now that our establishment and politicians are in support of China, we will probably opt not to keep China in check.

F. Even if our establishment and politicians weren't in support of China.. we still shouldn't get involved. It's none of our business.

Taiwan is our friend, China is not. This isn't hard to figure out.

And by the way I've spent ample time in both so this is more than an educated guess.

What we should do is put a significant US military base in Taiwan just like we did in West Germany.
