I agree. Nixon probably could have been one of the greats, but his insecurities/paranoia got the best of him.
Bush was awful.

lets see, Nixon was never impeached, must mean he didn't do anything wrong, Right?

Clinton was impeached, you figure it out, you can't possibly be that obtuse.

Biggest provable crime was lying in a legal proceeding.

Carter fixed that...

Well, the one that bothered me the most was selling satellite tech in return for campaign donations.

This witch hunt is a Watergate style controversy. I mean it was over a year old when they picked up on it.
Carter looked soft on Foreign affairs Iran Hostage proved it somewhat
Then Reagan came with America Power rhetoric and theories
History is replaying itself basically. I am glad it is doing so.

Because Nixon was a loose cannon. The GOP was smart enough to distance themselves from him.
If they had stuck by Nixon the way the Dems stick by Clinton/Obama, there would have been no resignation.

This is a good question. I think it had to do with the (relatively) bipartisan nature of Congress's investigations in holding Nixon accountable along so when Ford came along and pardoned Nixon, he and Nixon bore the brunt of the nation's anger and the pardon simultaneously clamped down cycles of reprisals. The Republican party was willing to go along with intelligence agency reforms to make them less unaccountable henchmen of President including the Church commission, FISA, etc. I agree the Carter helped the Republicans. The Southern strategy also continued to be effective long after Nixon's days in using Civil rights as a wedge issue to pry whites away from the Democratic party.

Because Jimmy Carter was so miserably inadequate as a President that the country ran away from his party in record numbers, and it turned out to be the best move they ever made.

“The Hopeless Wanker”. (aka Jimmy Carter)

Because it’s the economy stupid.

Dems had a 61-39 majority in senate and a 292-143 advantage in congress genius. Carter just a big old crap over everything and they lost all the momentum.

FDR is the worst president with the worst congress in US history without a doubt.
LBJ is a close second.
Time will tell but Obama is making a string case for third

Great to know perjury is no longer considered a crime
No we can close up Mueller because perjury traps are all he has!
Thanks!

From an old guys point of view...
Carter ruined it with the Iran hostages. They were detained for a year... it was on the news daily and it made the Democratic Party look weak as hell upholding USA values. Then Reagan comes along with his great oratory skills - the hostages get released and he scares the hell outta Russia with the Star Wars missile system. Watergate is now forgotten.

People recognized that the actions of one POS shouldn't taint the entire party.
