I know enough about it to say this, those emperors were nearer to the end of Rome, but also made lots of enemies, so even historians disagree about accuracy. In those days you could destroy physical records and monuments.
They were nowhere near the end of Rome. Caligula was from 37 to 41 AD, and Nero was 54-68 AD. The empire was established around 30 BC. Your comment about them making lots of enemies makes the assumption that people lied out of hatred. Historical records are quite consistent and well supported by evidence as to the behaviors of both of those emperors. And I only mentioned them as the most glaring examples, but the vast majority of their emperors were brutal dictators, just not as mentally unstable as Nero and Caligula.

But now you’ve made me realize that Republicans need to turn to Roman rather than Christian values, which Christianity is based on.
And how did it make you "realize" that? How can Christianity be based on Roman values, when Rome hated Christians and murdered them, as I said, for sport? How could Rome influence Christianity, when Romans were pagans who did not believe in Biblical values and did not teach anything resembling the Gospel? It wasn't until Constantine came around in the 300's that he converted to Christianity and made it the official religion of Rome.
You don't know history, friend.

Mind showing me your manuscript translations?

That said, im not conservative, partly b/c the word conservative, to me, means 'close-minded', 'stuck in the past', 'handcuffed by tradition'.. you get the point .. maybe not the literal definition , but it's what conservative means to me, and what most conservatives ive known in life seem to be like ... by contrast, even though I dont consider myself 'progressive'- at least that word means constantly evolving, open-minded, ok with change, with progress.. NOT stuck in the past .... I hope what im trying to say makes sense, but I welcome any counterpoints .. I come in peace .
A conservative wants to conserve the constitution by its original interpretation.
Of course, politicians are liars and only pretend to have those values until elected.
Ross Perot was a great vote IMO. I also supported him. Bush was a neocon and I don't vote for him. Even though he wasn't elected he set the tone of government for the Clinton years and it paid off. Never regret that vote.

Ive always hated this argument. Do you really think evangelicals are leaving for the left?
Ditch the legislating morality, stick to fiscal conservatism and personal freedoms and it'd be unstoppable.

Believing that you can obtain a moral conscience through evolution takes more faith than believing in a sovereign God.

Mind showing me yours? Nothing I have stated is disputed by Christian or secular historians. You are literally making things up out of thin air, because you simply don't know what you're talking about. And I'm not the snarky type who likes to say things like that to people, but you really leave me no choice. You are clearly not knowledgeable about any of this, and I actually am starting to doubt that you are even serious.

Evangelicals will just stop voting if you're not representing some of the moral values they're looking for

Where does child marriage, transitioning minors, drag shows for toddlers, men in women's sports, free narcan but expensive epipens, etc.. fall into this?
Personal freedoms are fantastic... until the crazies use them to destroy the very society that permitted them.
We aren't the same people we were when this nation was founded. Our system is only fit for a moral people.

Just curious what are the Christian values that influence policy in this country that you consider a problem?

This isnt what I meant...I consider that common sense shite.
Whay I meant by legislating morality is do nothing crap like putting the 10 commandments in the classroom. Moral grandstanding that accomplishes nothing

Rome basically picked the books you accept in the bible. The Council of Rome produced a list of 73 books.
That was in 382 AD.
Now I realize Rome didn't create those books and what not. But it was done as a way to declaring other gnostic based books false because not all Christians believed the same things.
So Romans did basically choose the values.
The Protestant bible narrowed it down to 66 (taking out more Old Testament books) in the 1500s.
That's the one most of us know.

It’s just a religious thing shared across most religions…be a good person and everything will be alright.
That may be true across most religions, but that is not what Christianity teaches.

The Council of Rome only made these decisions for a local/regional church not the entire Christian church across the world at that time

Yes I am aware of this. Rome took an established faith and made themselves the "law", making a lot of unilateral decisions. That's why people left the church in protest. I am also a protestant.
In no way does that make Rome the founder of Christianity. It had already been established for a couple of hundred years.

Let’s just all convert to Muslim and live under their law? How about that OP? frick it.
