Why can’t we separate Conservative values from religion?

I’m an atheist, just like many Republican politicians…they have rock solid values but also have let’s say more education and awareness than us common folk…Look at me trying to fit in. One of us.
But for some reason we can’t separate those great Christian values from religion. In the future with the advent of the internet (look at me with a fancy word), so why not grow the Republican party through values instead of belief?
Especially if atheism is growing but is afraid to latch onto good values because from the outside, it looks like cult that requires belief in listening to an insane man recite crazy passages on Sundays with a wealth tax. We need to get ahead of this and shift before dems get control of this group.

Bottom line?
We need Evangelicals on our team
Else, everything would have gone to the Democrats a LONG time ago.

There a many good debates on this.
I think the argument is that morality has to be based on something, and our western morals are based on Christianity.

If you can see the intrinsic inseparable link between "great Christian values" and religion...... I'm not sure you can be helped.

The world doesn’t have an issue with religion, they do however with Christianity

You can do that without religion and latching onto values like anti whoring, adultery, abortion, etc.

I read your OP twice and don’t have a clue what you’re trying to say

If you want Christian values as an atheist, you can adopt them if you want, but they aren’t any better or worse than any other value set in an atheistic worldview, necessarily.

You’re not an atheist. You just haven’t figured it out yet.

Please elaborate since this could be groundbreaking if you could make sense of that.

You have a very limited understanding of Christianity.
It goes much deeper than you realize.

Well the laws that we have were built on those “great Christian values” and common sense. The liberal/democrat party has separated from Christian values and the Conservative Party is clinging to them as they should. The Republican Party is the default “values” party period. There is no reason to separate the two.

I could be wrong, smart enough to realize I know nothing. But why do you think you’re right?

quote:All moral judgments require some standard to compare an action to in order to determine “right” (“good”) or “wrong” (“evil”). Christianity sees God as an objective moral law-giver who has provided an objective moral law (the 10 commandments). It’s objective in the sense that it originates outside the human mind and applies to all humans equally across time, space, and geography. While the application of it may differ at times, the standard, itself, does not change. In addition, all people are held accountable to that standard by God.
Please elaborate since this could be groundbreaking if you could make sense of that.
Atheism, on the other hand, posits that morality is subjective, originating from the human mind. Since there is no singular source for morality other than the human mind, it necessarily fluctuates from person to person, place to place, and time to time, based on whatever social agreements may exist in the microcosm. Because of this, there is no singular moral standard that applies equally to everyone everywhere and at every time, so if one society chooses to believe it is right to kill off the weak or rape their way to a stronger society, that’s “right” for them, and there is no outside moral judge that we can look to in order to judge otherwise. Human flourishing and empathy are arbitrary measures we typically use to say something is “moral”, but we could just as easily use the opposite as a moral standard.
In other words, without an objective moral framework to go by, atheism reduces morality down to shared preferences, like a favorite flavor of ice cream.

Why can’t you separate your atheism from who you are? Don’t say you can because you are the one who felt the need to bring it up. Sounds hypocritical.

No you can’t. Take loving your enemy as an example. It goes against human nature. Someone wrongs you, you strike back twice as hard to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
You can only love your enemy if you believe two things. There is a God who is just who will deliver justice in his own time. You believe Jesus Christ will return to judge the living and the dead.

Values must have a root... "it feels right" is the root to bad values.
