Ok? And? That seems reasonable.

Well... I didn't think you'd watch a video with Flat Earth in the title, so I didn't bother posting.

Yea. And I get the climate change hysteria now. If the ice ring melts, all the water runs off the edges.
Ah! That would explain the lack of sea level rising.

Still waiting on one picture of video of your claimed 70mile view of Philadelphia…
Come on buddy. You said it yourself, multiple pictures and videos.
Yet you have posted closer pictures of two other cities……
Where are your pics and videos?

Then simply just watch the video.

This is a video of a photo taken of a mountain in California from 123 miles away and detailed explanation.
Mt San Jacinto

This may be the strangest post I’ve ever read.
However I could only make it about 1/3 way thru.

quote:no educated person from near antiquity onward thought the earth was flat like a table. That's a myth propagated during Victorian times by Washington Irving. The Greeks and all Western civilizations that spring from them, as well as Persians, Arabs, Chinese, etc, basically anyone who could do math not only knew the earth was round but had fairly accurately calculated it's circumference. The whole story of Columbus arguing with the University staff about his trip has been skewed in popular culture. It is a known fact that the University folks were against Spain funding the trip not because they thought the world was flat but because they rightly recognized that Columbus has drastically miscalculated the distance and it was not within the limits of their ships to cross those distances. If there hadn't happened to be a continent in the middle, Columbus would have starved to death out on the ocean. The church didn't think the earth was flat either, there are many surviving writings that talk about educating the common people that when they say the earth is round they mean round like a ball, not a plate. So not only did nobles, the clergy, and other educated medieval people know the earth was a globe and how big it was, it was also common and accepted knowledge among commoners as well. Flat earthers in 2022 are dumber than dark ages peasants, pretty sad
This argument feels like the 1300s and 1400s with people scared that ships would sail right off the edge of the ocean, like falling off the edge of a table

Still waiting on your 70 mile view of Philadelphia that you said had multiple photos and videos.
I find it weird that you can’t produce one yet.

There's no way these flat earthers are being sincere. It has to be an elaborate troll, there's no other explanation.

Fisheye, and no, they're clearly not. Fisheye lenses produce far more distortion at the edges of images.
They appear to be 35mm lenses.
The lens used in the first moon landing was 60mm.
Further, a fisheye will produce a spherical distortion, but not enough to turn a plane into a sphere.

That this loony tunes post got 22 upvotes says a lot about he composition of this board as of late.

Absolutely.
I’ll let you cut my balls off. How bout that?
You, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt, did not see Philly with your own eyes from that distance
Hold on...
quote:
The distances from Washington Rock are roughly 40 km to Manhattan Island and 80 km to Philadelphia (and not "120 miles").
Looking out from Washington Rock however, you can only look in one direction, which is southeast. Neither New York (NE) nor Philadelphia (SW) lie in this direction.
Let's run the math anyway. Elevation is roughly 510 feet (155m) and not 400 feet. Even if it was in that direction and using the calculation from #69, Manhattan should be perfectly visible from that vantage point (horizon at 45km).
The drop from the horizon to Philadelphia is roughly an extra 100m. With Philadelphia at 12m elevation, even buildings higher than 88m in Philadelphia should be visible. Factoring in refraction (depending on weather conditions), you would be able to see even more. A rough guessing value for refraction under normal conditions is 0.13 times the expected total drop as seen from sea-level:

So if I bring a big arse telescope, you won’t see the ground of Philadelphia, but the tops part of a couple tall buildings.
Guess I lose my balls but confirm the earth isn’t flat

Record scratch. The deal was he has to show me that he saw with his own eyes and if we didn’t see what he said he saw, then I get to kick him in the balls.
Looks like you agree he couldn’t actually see the city of Philadelphia because it isn’t in view.
My balls are safe
