It was just bad politics. There are a lot of professions (like politics) in which your image can be as important as your competency. You don't want your constituents to have any negative feelings toward you for avoidable reasons, and you sure don't want to look like you're above them by sitting on the beach in Cancun while they are freezing without power in Texas. It doesn't matter if there's nothing you can do about it.

Every non-executive politician is useless in a calamity, and many executives are useless.
Again, he's a Senator. There is nothing for him to do. It's not like he could even physically give a hand, like someone might do after a hurricane, tornado or earthquake. It's a deep freeze. You just wait it out and let maintenance crews do what they can, when they can.

In case you haven't figured it out the thing that is and soon to be was keeping this coalition on the left going is a unified hatred for President Trump. They don't have that now and they think that they can rally hatred around Ted Cruz and it will not work, he doesn't move the needle like Trump does. Trump is right to go silent and I give it a few months to watch this coalition implode.

I really don't have a problem with him going to Cancun. He's not President. He can't issue any orders. He isn't director of Fema. He can't issue any orders. He's not Governor. He can't issue any orders. He's just a Senator. Heck, if I had the money, I'd head south to Florida every winter to get away from the cold. Cuomo, on the other hand, sentenced almost 10,000 elderly people to death and tried to cover it up. Where's the MSM outrage over that?
