I don't disagree with the sentiment, but in this case, there's no screw up to call out.

By the left's logic here, I should be upset at Cedric Richmond for not riding out every hurricane that blasts through NO.

You're all right. The best thing for literally any situation is for Ted Cruz to get the hell out of the way.

If there nothing you honestly think a sitting United States Senator could do to help those that elected him, then that is a failure of imagination and leadership.

Completely agree. You don't run off and leave your people in a crisis. The best kind of work he could do would be behind the scenes, helping out or managing at various distribution or warming sites. Making sure there are enough warming sites or water distribution sites. Making calls to find places for people to go.

But he's only good at the things politicians do...talking about shite and doing nothing.

Again, he's a Senator. There is nothing for him to do. It's not like he could even physically give a hand, like someone might do after a hurricane, tornado or earthquake. It's a deep freeze. You just wait it out and let maintenance crews do what they can, when they can.

I'm not saying it's wrong. I am saying the optics are bad. In a lot of facets of life, perception can be as important as reality.

quote:

In case you haven't figured it out the thing that is and soon to be was keeping this coalition on the left going is a unified hatred for President Trump. They don't have that now and they think that they can rally hatred around Ted Cruz and it will not work, he doesn't move the needle like Trump does. Trump is right to go silent and I give it a few months to watch this coalition implode.

The Cruz thing is irrelevant on a national level.

quote:

No it wasnt. It was shitty leftist narrative that is as dishonest as YOU apparently are...

Wrong.

There's a time and place for everything. If a major college coach gets hammered at home, no one cares. If he gets hammered in some popular bar on campus and is filmed falling down drunk, people will care.

Same behavior but different time and place. This isn't a story if Cruz goes to Cancun in two weeks.

There's nothing "wrong" with what Cruz did. It was just ill-advised under the circumstances. If it costs him even one vote in his next election - which is possible - it was a bad move.

Go to Cancun some other time.

quote:

NONSENSE. Ted Cruz could do nothing - NOTHING AT ALL - to remediate ice storm problems. The ONLY thing Ted Cruz is guilty of is being seen as a leading presidential contender for the opponents of PERVASIVELY LYING DEMOCRAT TRASH.

All that matters is what his constituents think. Not you, not me, not CNN, not the national as a whole. It's not a good look for a politician to be seen as above the problems of the everyday American for a totally unnecessary reason.

People who have spent the last few days in an ice box cutting up baby cribs to keep a fire going and melting snow for water might not appreciate Cruz living it up on the beach in another country at the same time they were suffering.

quote:

I support Ted Cruz' vacation completely

It doesn't make a shite what you think. All that matters is what Texans think at the voting booth and it's possible some may hold it against him.

This probably won't cost him his Senate seat, but it's certainly not helping his image.

Stay home and turn off his whole house generator.

Suffer like everybody else.

I'm sure that is what chuck & nancy would have done if they lived in Tejas.

I don't blame him (politically speaking, that is - as I personally don't give a shite) for leaving the area but I wouldn't have left the country for a beach trip.

Fly back to D.C. Surely he has a place there. Wait out the winter weather, come back and say all the right things, then head to Cancun.

Why did you quote so many comments from other people in your reply to me?

And I don't give a crap about the "optics" on this one. I'm not some political noob. I know all about the optics, and the entire leftist narrative is an optical illusion. They will make a mountain out of any mole hill, and as far as the people who actually voted for Ted Cruz in that state, I highly doubt this changes any of their opinions. They know he's not the Governor, and there isn't anything for him to do about this situation.

So the only people who are even pretending to care about the "optics" are the people that never voted for him, in the first place.

I don't care where politicians go. The only time I criticize a politician for going on vacation is when it's a lefty who has spent much of their time complaining about a republican going on vacation. It's the hypocrisy that I criticize. Otherwise, what do I care if they leave and never come back?

Yeah...because it was in direct opposition to the state mandate! Cruz hasn't got shite to do with the state's handling of that situation. If the Senate's not in session, he can go wherever he pleases!

People vote for and against candidates for lots of reasons. You don't think a lot of people voted against Trump in 2020 because of his crude behavior rather than his policies?

I don't think it will cost Cruz his Senate seat, either, but it's certainly an episode he could have done without and should have avoided.

Even if you can't help someone or something you can still be sensitive to the situation. When I'm driving down the road and see a funeral procession I pull over and stop. It doesn't change anything. The person's still dead, and I don't even know him/her. But it's a gesture of respect and sympathy for people enduring a tough time.

Getting out of Dodge to do what's best for your family is certainly understandable. Leaving the country for a beach trip while your constituents are trapped in winter hell? Probably a bit much.

I cannot understand why people are so mad at him. Texans finally caught a break when His Nutcaseness, Senator Fled "Cut and Run" Cruz, left the state.

Politician worship is real, and it's just so silly when you consider those politicians don't give a shite about you.

But what is a Senator going to do? He's not an executive, so what difference could he make? I'm not even that big a fan of the guy, anymore, but this is just ridiculous.

Some politicians have had boots on the ground helping out. Others have been working to secure money/donations, so why are we pretending there's just nothing he could have done?

I mean, if I had a choice between him sipping tequila on the beach or helping to advocate for donations, federal relief, talking on the news about best practices to get through this and maybe taking a CEO or two to task - I think we know the latter is probably the right choice, even if the former is not the end of the world.

“After Katrina, I actually set up more offices and moved staff down from Jackson to work,” said Trent Lott, the Republican former majority leader and senator from Mississippi. “You do extra things after a disaster.”

Basically this, Cruz made a selfish move
