I know Bobby and knew Edwin..Edwin has highest iq and a near photographic memory...didn't agree with his politics but he was a an extremely smart individual.
The only reason he went to prison was he made a deal to keep his son out of prison. They had the goods on Stephen not Edwin.

If by IQ no, if by being slick AF, yes. One of the most talented politicians ever horrible governor.

A now retired friend was a neighbor. Someone gave EWE an army jeep which he loved to drive. He called that guy up to help get his jeep started because the engine died. It was just out of gas.

EWE was extremely street smart but if you took away all the money he stole, over decades, he would have just been another lawyer. Senator Kennedy is both High IQ smart & street smart.

He’s without a doubt the worst thing that ever happened to the state.

One of the best things that ever happened to the state was his sorry fricking arse getting killed.

I have met John Kennedy and have been to events where he was the speaker. His academic credentials are impressive.

David Vitter has to be up there. I went to school with him.

I met Edwin Edwards a bunch of times and have even got to hang out with him a few times. He has the most street smarts of any of them.

I had lunch with Edwin Edwards in 2018. Definitely showed his age by then, but was still sharp. Too bad he couldn’t use that charm and charisma for the good of the state instead of himself. Didn’t like his politics, but am glad I got to meet him.

Went to high school with David Vitter.
Extremely intelligent.
Just wish he had sewn his wild oats in HS and College instead of later in life.

Imo, Roemer had a chance to be a very good Governor. I think the two reasons it didn't work out that way were 1) the state legislature he had to work with was crappy, and 2) Roemer had a couple of personal flaws. He was a little too full of himself, and was a bit of a spoiled brat at times.

Grandfather ran one of his campaigns or part of the state for him and said the exact same thing about him.
Said he lost the last run because he thought he was unbeatable and wouldn’t listen to any of their advice. Was very nice to me.

No one here has mentioned a true Louisiana legend.

Warren J. "Puggy" Moity

Puggy was the best!

Edwin Edwards. One of the nicest men I've ever met, too. Never voted for him though.

EWE had a photographic memory. I went to his book signing and the guy in line ahead of me talked to him about meeting at some event years ago. EWE remembered it and spoke about the event in some detail.

Smartest? Edwin Edwards.
