Huey P. Long was definitely the most corrupt Louisiana politician ever. His "Win or Lose Corporation" set the Long Family up for generations of oil and gas revenue from State of Louisiana owned land!!

Can you even imagine how much nicer Louisiana roads would be if HLP had not been so greedy and corrupt?

My grandfather was a state senator for 2 terms in the 50’s. Not saying he was the smartest, but I have an interesting story. He obtained his law degree. Then World War II broke out. So he went and served and when he got back and needed employment, apparently it was illegal for attorneys to advertise so he ran for political office to get his name in the paper and hopefully drum up some business. Local attorney and WW II veteran looked good in the paper. Well, he ended up winning.
He told his children that he quit politics because it was no place for an honest man. He said that on voting days he watched brown envelopes of cash being passed under the table from person to person countless times. He jokingly said that you couldn’t get $100 bill at a bank in Baton Rouge on voting days because the politicians had cleaned them all out..

The memory on that man was unbelievable. That is why he was so good with people, treated everyone important.

During his last campaign he detailed an interaction with a woman's mother....from 20 years earlier when he met her the first time he ran for governor!

Want Buddy Roemer(sp?)an Ivy League graduate? Maybe Harvard

Roemer was the only La. politician I met. In fact, I worked for him for one year as a young typesetter for his publications. He was a short squirt with a beautiful wife (3 of them, plus girlfriends). He was not very smart. I had to correct most of his writing because in was awkward text.

My timeframe for working with legislators regularly was 2006-2024. In that stretch Sharon Hewitt really stands out, but she didn’t have much of a bar to clear.

The dumbest was probably either Dottie Horton or Major Thibaut. I’ve met cats and dogs smarter than them. Most cats
and dogs are smarter than them. I’d be shocked if Thibaut isn’t a frequent poli board poster.

If he met you and knew your family even just slightly he would ask about your mother by name. He knew my great uncle and would say, " How is your uncle, Tony?" and he would do it without trying to reach for it.

It's not just a project now, it's nearly complete:

Segments 2 and 3 are complete and open. Segment 1 has had the land cleared and grubbed and construction plans are 98% complete:

I sat next to Jindal on a flight to New Orleans. I felt the same way. He seemed "genuine", was into the conversation, and was appreciative. I respected it.

Jindal let himself be guided and swayed by people who weren’t half as smart as him. I’m not really sure what that makes him at the end of the day, really.

For me, it was probably Buddy Roemer. He actually taught a class that I took.

Imo, Roemer had a chance to be a very good Governor. I think the two reasons it didn't work out that way were 1) the state legislature he had to work with was crappy, and 2) Roemer had a couple of personal flaws. He was a little too full of himself, and was a bit of a spoiled brat at times.
