I doubt anybody thinks that.

That's what we'd like to happen. The status quo isn't the start of anything, it's just the status quo.

100% agree, but let's not also act like it is unreasonable to call some bullshite when the federal government basically says we will make more cuts tomorrow, pinky promise. We don't have a great track record of ever following through on such promises

*If* the DOGE cuts do come through at a later date/legislation, rock and roll.

I understand your single braincell is feeling overwhelmed, it must have been difficult for you to manage getting that post through.

Elon is whining because of the electric vehicle mandate being removed and his buddy not being appointed head of NASA.
All portions of the legislation were online - from 11 committees - and available to read for weeks ahead of it being sent to the House Budget Committee and eventually to the full floor. It then passed.
More likely:
Elon, who is more informed than us, suddenly became aware of the bill.
OR
Elon is whining for not getting his way.

There is no good reason provided as to why Trump and Johnson went with one giant bill proposal.

I want a Trump presidency but I want a new Republican congress to go along with it. Trump is wrong on this bill, but I know what happens when Trump is wrong. He quadruples down and everybody loses.
Elon needs to put together a faction of GOP reps and senators that are loyal to him and find some way for them to get the ear of POTUS. It won't be easy to get Trump on board, but it's hopefully followed by Elon going absolute HAM on some of these GOPe dinosaurs.
I'm ready for a GOP that does shite. Trump may not know it, but 90% of his constituents also want this. He needs to listen to them.

Enough of the bullshite.
I think this is a pivotal moment. Large numbers of people were willing to overlook the bullshite as part of the "Art of the Deal" magic.
I'm afraid that Trump is just going to double down. "Elon knew this bill better than anyone" is clearly a lie.

Is this why last week you guys were making fun of Elon finding little in cuts?

Sure there is. Two separate bills wouldn't pass the House and Senate.

I didn't have an opinion on that.
Not even the members of Congress who voted on it had read the entire BBB. I believe Musk when he said he didn't read it for two reasons:
1) When there is a dispute between Trump and someone else about a provable fact, Trump is almost always wrong; and,
2) I doubt Trump had much input into drafting BBB. I doubt he knows very much about who was consulted in the drafting.

Trump is wrong here
Neither is Elon though.
Trump has the task of getting something passed with razor thin margins. Musk is stating the obvious about the inevitability of a terrible outcome unless we get our debt under control.
Musk started this though. He should have chosen a different tack, and he will need to back down, lest Trump goes after Tesla cyber cab autonomous performance, etc.

another massive spending bill that increases both spending and the debt ceiling, increases the pork kickbacks and rejects every single proposed DOGE cut that has been put forth in the past 5 months
As has been stated ad nauseum, the DOGE cuts could not be included. They are being done in a recission package.
Do you people even realize that the DOGE cuts, according to their own website, is only $130b? Yet, y'all are against the bill because it only cuts spending by $160b a year.
You reject $160b in less spending because you want "the DOGE cuts" of only $130b.

Anyone that still cannot see they're deliberately trying to destroy America at this point, is willfully ignorant.
That election security and border security in the bill is just terrible. Those lower taxes... awful. Removing green new deal bullshite... can't have that, especially not when our hero Elon gets a nice chunk of that $1.6 trillion.
The people against the bill are willing to keep $1.6t in EV subsidies because they want to save $130b under the cool name DOGE. Make it make sense.
Posted on 6/5/25 at 2:15 pm to Oates Mustache
The bill is Rino shite. Team Elon here. Stop raising the debt ceiling to pass garbage. Pass a real balanced budget.

Yes.
You actually get cuts with this bill. Not much, but there are still cuts. If you take the roughly $150 billion in savings DOGE has found along with this BBB savings you are somewhere between $250-$350 billion in savings per year (not over a 10 year period).
That is, imo, fantastic. It is not enough for sure. But getting real savings of roughly $300 billion is a great achievement (assuming Congress enacts the DOGE cuts). That is the starting point. These entitlements were built up in one big bill and they are not going to all be cut in one big bill.

Elon is right about this bill.
