White smoke reaction: JP2 isn’t walking back out on that balcony

I’m not Catholic, so this really doesn’t move my needle.
That being said, there was at least one transformational pope in my lifetime. Can’t comment on his theology, but his impact on the world stage was massive. I even made a point to see where he lived when I visited Krakow.
In the 1980’s, the world stage was anchored by Reagan, Thatcher, JP2, and (eventually) Gorbachev. You might even argue to include Deng, even if we didn’t see it at the time.
Trump is certainly transformational, but it’s too early to see the outcome. Until he came along, though, there had been nobody that wielded substance commensurate with their hype.
So many things about the 80’s seem bigger than life today for people of a certain age, but the massive re-shaping of the world during that time seems beyond debate.

Things looked really bad in 1979, too.

JP2 was a lib. Just seems conservative compared to Francis. We haven’t had a good pope since Pius IX or Pius X.

JP2 was the rockstar pope. It’s a singular point in history, there will never be another. Benedict was actually a solid pope, but far more reserved. Francis had been trying to be JP2 but failing and contradicting doctrine. We need a conservative pope more like Benedict but less reserved and ready to engage in a global spectrum at a time when people need to come back to God

I wasn't making a comment on theology or ideology.
Just heft.

JP2 took a bullet to the head and still kept kicking for another 25 years. Boss.

The church is very much caught up in the narrative of globalism as an embrace of widespread peace and love when in fact it is nothing more than secular, satanic tyranny driven primarily by greed. It's hard to imagine a John Paul II type of figure in a battle to break the highly political fight between globalism and nationalism because the evils of globalism are not as cut and dry aggressive to the faith as soviet communism was and the concerns of nationalistic people have shifted to much more secular issues.
The Pope will sadly continue to be - knowingly or not - a useful tool of those promoting human subjugation to global plutocracy. When the cattle are all driven into the pen, then will be the time we really need another leader like John Paul in the church.

Reagan was also shot as was Trump. All survived. God works in Mysterious ways wondrous to behold.

Honestly I know it's not going to happen but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if the Catholic Church completely dissolved. It's a corrupt organization that has way too much dirt on its hands. I don't really care about the religious aspects of it because frankly at the top it's barely a religion

JP2 gave that piece of shite Cardinal Law a promotion, moved him to Rome, and gave him Vatican citizenship to protect him (and the Vatican) in the wake of the Boston child sex abuse scandal after he enabled and covered for almost 90 priests in the Boston area.

Not that it makes it any less severe but it was a little lower than the head.

It's a global, universal Church. What do you expect?

I have a memory from when I was a kid of him being shot in the head and even having a big bandage on his head at his first appearance after.
Mandela effect? Weird. Of course I’m convinced I somehow got jumped off my timeline in late 2019.

To not prop up Satan's creation as God's plan. But...yeah, I know why that idea would appeal to many in the church.

Why all the downvotes for this?
Please tell me that even most Catholics recognize that their leadership is shite.........please

The catholic religious organization is up there with the worst of the pedos. Why does anyone care what they say or do?
