Conservatives sure do love to sabotage the government and then complain that it doesn't work
How does "smarter, leaner" equate to "let's merge two bureaucracies with different missions!"

OMG, no sooner are we finished with illegal kids that we get another meltdown moment for the regressives. The shrinks will be busy this weekend.

I love the idea! As in no education, no jobs.

Have a matter before them, going on two years now. I could see me telling the IRS, I'll get back to you in a couple of years, hell, maybe three or more.

You aren’t very smart are you. What is the ultimate goal of getting an education? A job right? What does every market need to expand? An educated work force? Grow up and stop trolling.

Though I concur with the need for fewer FedGov employees, I can't see how merging these two makes any sense.

Even the article recognizes that they have little in common.

Labor and Commerce--makes sense.

Energy split between DoD and Commerce/Labor--makes sense.

They've all pretty much been outed already.

Forget the merger. Just end it already.

That's the endgame, this "merger" is just the first step.

Seems like a great chance to get rid unneeded departments.

What does the Dept of Education do again?

I thought most school districts got their funding from local property taxes and set their curriculum based on state requirements.

- free lunches
- tranny bathrooms

Anything else?

Most of it is funding for college in the form of grants and student loans

What say so does Congress have in how the Executive chooses to operate?

Because they appropriate the money.

You can't have a Secretary of Education unless Congress passes a budget that funds the position.

The merger is part of a broader Trump administration effort to streamline the government but is likely to face resistance in Congress.

Shocker

We'll see the yellow belly GOP establishment out in full force on this one. Can't wait to out them all.

That was literally one of the most idiotic things I've read in weeks.
The worst part is that your attitude suggests that you think you made some ground breaking point.

I don’t really buy that argument

Most economists and political scientists agree that, in general, government bureaucracy is inherently inefficient compared to a private enterprise because of incentive issues. A private business owner is much more likely to seek to lower costs because he is rewarded (through higher profit and competition) for doing so.

A bureaucrat’s service is completely separated from his income which complicated issues

I believe in the innovation and efficiency of private industry. I am also experienced enough to know that there are certain industries that are not well suited to full privatization.

I’d like it better if we just got rid of both of them completely.
