White House considers excluding high earners and those who studied professional degrees such as law and medicine from student-loan relief

High earners could be excluded from qualifying for student-loan relief

A source told The Washington Post that 'There's different proposals floating around about how to structure this'

Relief for loans that were taken out for medicine and law degrees could also be excluded, the paper reported

Biden on Thursday that he's taking a 'hard look' at the matter of student-loan relief and expects to make a decision 'in the next couple of weeks'

On Thursday, he ruled out a plan by Democrat lawmakers to relieve as much as $50,000 each - and instead said it would possibly be at least $10,000

Last month nearly 100 bicameral Democrat lawmakers signed a letter urging Biden to cancel up to $50,000 in federal student loan debt per borrower

Roughly 43 million Americans hold about $1.6 trillion in federal student debt

one does not "cancel" debt. or rent.

Reparations for those who paid back their student loans would only be fair!

I can’t for the life of me why ZERO republicans are screaming this from the mountain tops. Not necessarily demanding refunds.. but how “all of you who sacrificed and paid are paying again! And it’s not yours this time!” “And you folks who work hard who didn’t accrue loans are paying for them to be deadbeats too!”

I am so sick of these get along to go along republicans. They are going to let them bring this to a bill… resist a little because of “cost”. And then the usual suspects will cave and there it goes. Same shite. Different day.

This was always going to be the case

The people who actually had decent reason to take out large loans won't get the relief for them

No different from the tax code - which most harshly penalizes the most productive earners and then tells them what assholes they are for only giving 1/3 of their income to the welfare state.

Even bigger fail.

So we instead forgive the loans of people with gender Studies degrees who are in the half of this country that doesn’t actually pay income taxes.

This. What a joke. If they insist on canceling them, shouldn’t it be for people who actually used them to further themselves or contribute to society?

I figured this would be the case which is why I never thought I would benefit from any 'relief'.

Once again, ours is a system that rewards failure.

So what happens for graduates in 2023 and beyond? is it going to be a permanent rolling “forgiveness”?

if not, how does this actually solve anything?

if so, wouldn’t that just drive education costs even further?

would love for a Dem to answer this question on this stupidity

I want the justification from some of the leftist slime that have resurfaced to troll the abortion talks. Why should working class non-college educated people have to pay for stupid college kids who got a degree in women's gender studies?
