What are your thoughts on student loan forgiveness? Terrible idea or good idea, and why?

I’d support this with the added rule of no more loans for stupid, useless degrees.

Far too many Arts, English, and Sociology degree holders out there.

I don't think they need student loan forgiveness. Simply put a cap on the interest rates. Even for someone like me who makes a good living, my monthly payment is very high with most of it going to interest.

So if you actually got a degree worth a shite, nothing for you.

As for people with shitty decision-making skills? They once again are insulated from the consequences of their actions.

So what happens for graduates in 2023 and beyond? is it going to be a permanent rolling “forgiveness”?

if not, how does this actually solve anything?

if so, wouldn’t that just drive education costs even further?

This is the FIRST place my head always goes when this topic comes up. Without underlying reform on education costs, I will never even consider supporting any payoffs.

This is so fricked. I’m what a perverse disincentive.

Shouldn't the government get out of the student loan business anyway? Seeing as rates only skyrocketed once the feds stepped in.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but something would still need to be done on the loans already out.

fine with that. if they're a "high earner" they don't need it as much

I disagree. If you do for one you do for all. Or dont do it at all.

It's akin to having twins and giving your favorite everything and letting the other "figure it out."

Having saved and will have 2 SEC graduates (State & UK) leave debt free...I gotta say this chaps my arse.

Sure. I'm fortunate...and my kids are fortunate that we have the means to pay for college without taking on debt.

But that didn't come without sacrifice.

I've got no problem with needs-based scholarships, but this ish of borrowing a bunch of money and having it erased at taxpayers expense is crap.

Replace student loan with mortgage and I’ll support it.

That's one way to turn off the high donations from these people. I know some people from school who are probably fuming over this, because that's part of the reason they voted for this asshat.

When it's all said and done, those are going to be the only student loans forgiven. They are starting to look at not forgiving Medical and legal, next it'll be STEM degrees. Wait until they find out how many of those loans are to minorities that went to those Herzing, SNHU type schools and took out a shite load in loans for a career as a medical bill processor
