I had to show my ID just this past weekend at best buy to purchase a damn laptop

Showing your ID to purchase groceries or other goods isn't some outlandish observation. Leftists know this. But they want to make this an issue instead of acknowledging the larger point Trump was making regarding needing ID for far more mundane shite than participating in a federal freaking election.

None of them want to touch that chestnut.

Your grocer should be reported for encouraging ID theft and fraud. They might even be in violation of a state/city/local ordinance that requires photo ID verification in order to try to prevent crimes like ID theft and fraud.

Do they not have these where you shop?

Notice which side of the counter the card reader is mounted on?

How about self check out?

YOU DO NOT NEED A PICTURE ID TO BUY GROCERIES.

Depends on the merchant and the groceries in question, mijo.

Your caps lock does not change these facts.

Omg, stop.

Many places ask for ID when using a credit card. Stop pretending it doesnt happen. It happens all the time.

Not visa gift cards.

Wrong. Sometime in the last few years I remember reading some new Fed guidelines or statutes requiring gift card purchases to be ID required.

It was tied in with a year or 2 long common occurrence of money laundering. Talking people carrying suitcases full of gift cards all at the max amount and when traced to point of purchase was always cash.

Without the photo ID requirement it was an easy way to avoid the Suspicious Transaction Report limit at banks. Convert "x" thousands of dollars into gift cards to transport and then convert back into cash somewhere else.

Usually suspected drug money laundering but could also be counterfeit goods, institutional theft, etc..

I’ve been asked for an ID to buy groceries before in Florida. Many times. Without alcohol.

Are those not mounted on a swivel for the clerk to be able to twist them around for verification?

Again, the merchant end of the contract requires to merchant to photo ID all transactions. You are benefiting from the FAILURE of the merchant to stay in compliance with the contract.

But do you not carry an ID?

Are you suggesting that being asked to show ID is uncommon?

So your argument is that no one ever gets carded for groceries?

Do you even know what your argument is anymore?

Which is sold in pretty much every grocery store in America.

So every grocery store in America probably has a manual that lays out its process of how an employee goes about verifying purchases in its stores

They are most of the places I have been in across a 3 state area this year.

Again, FAILURE by the merchant to meet their contractual obligations.

So if you're gonna gloat on failures don't ever come the these boards whining when you or your family suffer ID theft. I won't care about any losses you incur due to your preference in merchants who do not follow protocols and procedures to prevent financial crimes.

Not at all. My argument is that you do not need a picture ID to buy groceries.

It is possible to live your entire life without showing a picture ID to buy groceries.

Since I don't drink, I have not been asked for ID at the grocery store in years. The only people I have seen be asked for ID at the grocery store have been either old folks writing checks or people buying alcohol.

Actually, I have no problem with voter ID. The grocery store is a very poor analogy to use to make the case for it.

Not just alcohol, tobacco and lotto tix, but many big chains like Safeway card for cough medicines. Some states are passing laws to mandate it.

GCT is a moron. This isn't even a real debate.
