They were already allies at the time.

We didn't know what Mao would do after WW2. He wasn't in power at the time. I guess hindsight is always 20/20

I'd say Afghanistan was justified. It:s tough to call revenge a "righteous cause" but there was no letting 9/11 go.

Afghanistan harbored the people behind 9/11.

Iraq was a go because they threatened the free flow of oil by invading and taking down Kuwait . Our national security was threatened.

To what degree does it delegitimize us as a country that purports to be a force for moral good?

America has been a net bad actor on the world stage since at least when I was born ('84). It's by the grace of God that no one is strong enough to challenge us on it yet.

I'd say sending in the special forces immediately after 9/11 to work alongside the Afgan tribes to fight against the Taliban was a righteous cause.

So we go to war with the people who harbored them, but give billions in aid and weapons to the country of origin of 15 of the attackers, which itself is the largest promoter of the Wahhabist doctrine that inspired their attacks. The War in Afghanistan was an absolute sham. If you want to destroy radical Sunni Islam, destroy it at the source.

Illegal bootlegging and speakeasies during Prohibition. We won with the repeal of the 18th Amendment.

That was a rebellion (e.g., Civil War). The only difference is that time the rebels won.

Gulf War I was righteous. We couldn't let Saddam control a large chunk of the world's energy.

I would say WWII. I'm satisfied WWII was a worthy endeavor and Nazi Germany and Japan had to be defeated.
