When the Going Gets Tough, the Electric go Petrol

"Just in case things go wrong... again.
Payload on the F-150 Lightning EV is considerably reduced by the heavier batteries in the “tow package.” Towing range with a moderate tow payload is in the mid double digits.
Don’t send a woke-mobile to do a man’s job."

Green technology can't yet compete with internal combustion.
Efforts to force a more expensive, less efficient alternative is typical of "woke" politics.

Electric car-maker Tesla isn’t taking any range risks in Australia with their support vehicles. When they need to repair their breakdown-prone plug buggies, Tesla use reliable, petrol-powered Mitsubishis.
Meanwhile, Ford’s new all-electric F-150 pickup truck might be facing a problem or two in the US:
Ford estimates that range for the 2022 F-150 Lightning electric pickup will be 230 miles for trucks with the standard battery and 300 miles on trucks with the extended-range pack …
However, we estimate that towing anywhere near the Lightning's stated 10,000-pound maximum tow rating will lead to highway range in the double digits.
Shouldn’t be a problem. Nobody ever tows anything more than 100 miles.
Interestingly, an extended-range electric F-150 has a reduced payload capacity compared to the less-expensive standard variant. That’s because the long range battery is significantly heavier, cancelling any power advantage.
Nothing green ever works.

Why can’t they put a small lawn mower engine in it that runs a small charger to give it longer life? If they could make it get 100mpg, that would be a huge deal.

It's a pickup not a Smart car

Hauling cattle up here would be a nightmare.
Oh, wait... we’ll be eating synthetic beef soon.

And I can fill my petrol powered vehicle up in 5 minutes. When battery technology can catch up to that then talk to me.

So, to overcome these efficiency deficits, electric cars require greater electricity consumption, ergo greater greater electrical production, ergo greater coal & fossil fuel consumption, ergo greater carbon emissions.

I guess folks with campers can't get their hopes up about "going green" anytime soon unless they are okay with having to make charge stops every hour or traveling the equivalent of B.R. to NOLA.

...but if you get the wind assist package.....look out!

The push for electric vehicles comes from China.
America is self sufficient in our oil and gas needs.
While China owns the World’s lithium.

The resell value of these electrics will be absolute dogshit.

I still don't understand how electric cars have been derided into the woke category and why some of you are so threatened by them.

That defeats the purpose. Carrying your solution further, we could make the gasoline engine bigger and the electric motor smaller, and we end with a normal car with an internal combustion engine and an electric starter.

quote:Nonsense. I have a 2500HD Silverado and its tow capacity is 12,000. No way someone needing to tow 10,000 lbs is going to buy a tinker toy for a truck. So the stated mileage is useless.
Lightning's stated 10,000-pound maximum tow rating

Because there’s a significant population that doesn’t reside in the cities and/or suburbs and we rely on vehicles for more than just going to a cubicle in an office building or Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods.
Hauling several hundred cow-calf pairs in an EV truck would take forever. I commute almost 80 miles one way, and in the winter, I have concerns about reliability in getting to work on a single charge. Regardless of what people think in terms of efficiency, keeping a vehicle warm is going to drain a battery. From a safety standpoint, I feel better having an internal combustion engine on a full tank if I’m driving in the temperatures we witnessed just a few months ago. At -30, if I get stranded, I’m dead.

No one is “threatened” by them. Don’t like being forced into anything. Allow the market to create the inventions as they can. Or, as the market demands. When government comes in and pushes these things, there will be no demand for the items when they become available.

If you feed a water tank with a 1/4" line and the dump valve is 1" how much longer do you think you will be able to get water from that water tank?
Maff... it always works.

Cause the tree huggers would argue the lawn mower engine is run on fossil fuel, therefore your idea is racist and homophobic.

Electric vehicles are an answer in search of a question.
The entire premise of their necessity is a big lie.
When they can approach the reliability, range and ease of use of a gasoline or diesel powered vehicle, then maybe they will be able to compete.

It’s also funny how most environmentally-conscious folks suggest I move closer to the cesspool so I didn’t have such a long commute. My commuter vehicle gets anywhere from 40-50+ mpg, and my annual fuel costs combined with property taxes still comes in about $2500 less than what I’d pay to live in Lancaster County (NE). Not to mention I like my acreage and the conservative community we live in.
